i have a windlass steel Dirk blade im going to be working on. This is the second knife I have attempted to make but I wanted to work the handle with a little more exotic material than wood. I purchased a buffalo cylinder about 4.5 inches long and wanted to cut that more or less in half then in the middle insert a piece of pink eyed catlinite (pipestone). I have worked with the pipestone before and it polishes out easy with fine grit paper. I was just wondering how well the epoxy will hold the stone to the bone or should I invest in some thin spacers to segment them. I would appreciate any comments from some of yall that are more experienced. I plan on putting a guard and pommel on the tang as well. Also I know I have to file down the bone to fit it to the guard and is there a recomended way to do that is filing better than say a disc or drum sander and also will the bone polish out well with fine grit papter then a buffing? thanks for those that respond.
