Some of you might be familiar with the work of Roger Remund(Swissbianco) who is an amazing knife craftsman and designer. Well, this is a picture of one of the Stay Glow scaled, Plain edged main blade, corkscrew instead of phillips screwdriver One Handed Trekker he did in conjunction with Victorinox. This is the model that is pictured in and written about in the current issue of Tactical Knives magazine. I am truly thrilled with it, and I would very much like to thank Roger for bringing these knives to be, and to the fellow SOSAKer who out of the kindness of his heart sold this one to me. Anyway, here is the picture!

I don't know how you could mod one without being able to buy StayGlow scales. As of this time the scales are not available for purchase.

You just have to rub it in, don't you? :-)
Roger is hoping to get a run of these around Xmas... Holding my breath.

Here's some more pictures of the StayGlow OHT. I do believe Roger is working on a new run of these for SoSAK.

As much as I love the quality of the SAK, I hate the steel of the blade. Are there any plans to offer mods with a better blade steel? I doesnt have to be some super steel, Sandvik or 440C is fine.

that steel used is close to 440C. theres also some damascus damasteel blade pioneer models coming and i did an proto oht pe with damasteel blade, hope to make more in usa, in swiss there banned...

theres a lot going on but it needs time. swiss arent fast but accurate:D

Well, first you buy a Rescue Tool, then you take the scales off the Rescue Tool, then you take a Dremel to the red lettering that says "Rescue Tool," then you put them on the 111mm SAK of your choice (perhaps first moding it to have a OH blade, like say a OH Hunter, you can then put a plain edge on the OH Blade if you really want to, though it will not look as nice as the PE Blades +Bianco has) and there you have a (OH PE) 111mm SAK with StayGlow Scales. It really is a simple Mod.

The only downside is that you have to eat the cost of the Rescue Tool to do the Mod (unless you don't mind having a rescue tool with plain scales as your vehicle knife).

I have never fondled one of the OH Trekkers. How is the blade to open? Smooth like a Spydie, or does it take some effort? Like that blade with no serrations, BTW.

It opens like a SAK blade but with an opening hole. there's still the backspring to make the first part of the opening harder (keeping the knife closed), and to assist the last part.
It's not hard but it's not as effortless as a spydie.

Edit: If you have a UKPK, it's about the same level of smoothness, but the UKPK stops half opened (it opens in two smooth steps), while the OHT goes from closed to open in one smooth motion.

Maybe it changes over time with use, but I found the OH Trekker awkward to open and close for a right-hander. Unlike Spyderco, or any knife designed for one handed opening, the OHT was modified from a conventional nail nick activated model and works against backspring tension. Most of the time, I found myself preferring to open it with both hands. Also, the lock release pushes in the "wrong" direction for right hand use.

It seemed a good alternative to a single bladed, one hand opening knife, but after wrestling with one for a while, I went back to a Delica plus multi-tool combo. That's just me, though. Altogether, despite the handling, the OHT is a well made and handy pocket item as an outdoor companion, especially for left-handers. If necessary, I could get used to it.

a right handed just has to get used to closing the "liner lock" with the middle finger while pushing the blade with the index finger (the thumb counters the middle finger's push). I find it quite easy to close it this way, not harder or slower than a regular liner lock.

The same for me, it's a nice knife, but a good folder just can't be replaced by a SAK without loss (ergonomics, weight, strength, steel, etc...). I carry my Spydercos everytime (most of the time my Calypso Jrs, Caly III, or UKPK), paired with a cybertool 34 + swisstool spirit, but the 111mm SAKs I have don't see much carry time.
For someone who doesn't carry a folder with his SAK, though, it's a great alternative.

That was an intentional design by Victorinox, not a flaw. They felt that this method of closing the knife was safer as you have to think about what you are doing and thus have to think about where your fingers are so the blade will not snap shut on them. On the one hand I can see why they did it, on the other it is a bit annoying. If you are left handed (which I'm not) then this is an excellent knife as it is easy to close one handed (it opens ambidextrous). I'm pretty sure that someone could take it apart and modify the linerlock so that it fits on the other side (I've taken mine apart and changed some of the tools but the linerlock spring is a bit beyond my skill).
