with Antonio Somera and Leo Giron.
This is the last of an 8 tape series by Grandmaster Leo Giron and Tony Somera. A small 50 min sit down interview where Somera asks questions of his teacher.
This an excellent companion piece to the book "The Secrets of Giron Arnis Escrima". Grandmaster Giron is sometimes seen holding an open fan with the names of the various (about 20) styles he's mastered. In this tape, he gives short descriptions/tactics of the styles and his start in Escrima. This is more of a nostaliga piece than a technical piece.
I liked Master Giron's honesty about some styles and tactics.
"Well, you can hit the side of his neck with the stick if you wanna kill him."
"XYZ style is when you've decided to stand your ground and block every strike and hit back or die trying"
He doesn't beat around the bush, he hits around it. If you've read Inosanto's "Filipino Martial Arts", you know what I mean. Sound quality is okay, while the official site has no tapes offered (http://gironarnisescrima.com), California residents can often get the set a Festival or some local Filipino festivals. I happened to see this tape at my local library.
Rant: Well, somebody decided to steal the other 7 volumes from the local library and Giron's other book "Memories Ride the Ebb of Tide". Thanks a lot buddy, you could've waited till I at least saw them all.
