I recently discovered that I live only a few miles from Ray Laconico. Today I dropped by for a visit.

Ray is very friendly and easy going. Here is a shot of him in his shop:

He only had two completed knives on hand, as well as an unfinished blade that I think would make an outstanding chef's knife. His knives have impeccable grinds, and excellent fit and finish. I ended up ordering my Christmas present while I was there, a longer blade version of the cocobolo utility knife in this picture:

Ray is very talented, and I would highly recommend his work!

I have one of the first "Baby Bowie"'s sold.............I carry it every day and have had more firefighters and cops try to steal it....:D

Man, what a youngster! :D

I own quite a few knives by Ray, and it's nice to see the pics. He does do great work!

Thanks for sharing the pix, lambertiana...if and/or when I can afford a custom knife one of his is either #1 or #2 on my list.....been lusting after one for quite a while!

:eek:AHHH SCARY!!! Looks like a mug shot. I thought I was smiling:D

It was really nice to have you visiting. I wish more people would visit me.

I have really been admiring Ray's work. I really like the middle blade in the picture above. What is it? What is Ray's wait time on a knife?

Not that I can really speak for him, but when I told him what I wanted, he said it would be finished in December. In the custom world, that's pretty fast. It won't be long before he gets so popular that he has a backlog like most custom makers.

I will not have a backlog of more than a couple of months. If I get too many orders, I won't take anymore. In fact for a time I wasn't taking orders at all. I was just making whatever I felt like making and selling them as I go. I started taking orders again this past summer but I won't take more than what I can do in a couple of months at the most.

It\'s nice to put a face with the name!

I have nothing but incredibly smooth deals with Ray. I love all three of my Laconico knives. I should post some pics of what my Stout Bowie looks like after a 4 day trip to Red River gorge. :)

Thanks for making great knives Ray and thanks Lambertiana for a look at Ray\'s shop.

Ray, it sounds to me like you are taking a really good approach to business there. I commend you! I liked the photos of your knives, too. Keep up the good work.

It's my cricket... :D (well, mine for a while) It just got here.
A gift for a good friend, this is one sweet little knife. If you see one come up for sale buy it. I didn't notice I still had it on five minutes after I wore it to "try it out" before it goes to it's new home.
This is number three (two left as gifts) for me, all have been smooth deals and nice knives. I LOVE my Baby Bowie.
He he, I have an idea for a new one, a style he has not done yet... :D

Yep, that was your knife Dino. I'm already thinking about the new project you told me about. I've never done one like that. It should be fun.

Well, after looking at Ray's work, I e mailed him and placed an order a couple of days ago. I cannot wait till it get's here.

trailside22's order is a full custom camp/hunting knife. He has trusted me to come up with something nice given a few features that he wants. I will call this model the "Trailside" camp knife:D

Trailside, you'll like it. And a "namesake" too. I like the "feel" of his knifes. The shape and form don't look forced to me.

I asked him for a seax, and it was just what I wanted. One more knife is now in the planning stage and next year I have an even odder knife in mind. It's a style with a long history in California :D

I like your work Ray! We may have to talk in the coming year. I have quite a few customs planned (at the moment, making me well out of money) and I'd love to add one of your EDC knives to my collection.

Thanks lambertiana for bring some of his work to my attention!
