Went for a walk today after work. The camera battery was low from work and I wanted to run it on down...there would have been more pics but I accomplished my intended goal fairly quickly.

Right off I disturbed some poor squirrel's dinner. Recent storms have brought down a lot of Hickory Nuts.

This area made me wish it was cool enough to enjoy a fire...

I had a couple of friends with me, yes...I know I'm eclectic :)

There were some colorful fungi around, some that reminded me of horse-hoof fungus.

Notice why this would be a bad place to set camp?

Well...among other reasons there is this. For a moment thoughts of Mr. Mears' wasp larvae video passed through my mind but after a couple of large grey hornets buzzed me a few times I decided I really wasn't all that hungry, and besides it was a bit warm to be building a fire :)

Not sure what this is...interesting colors though.

I have 2 of these within about 30 yards of my back porch. Both are just inside the woods, but right near the path I like to take to get in to where there is a bunch of wood for fires and such. They are both pretty active.. my nephew is scared of them.. but he knows to keep his distance.

That knife looks well loved. Making me want one more every time I see it.

Great stuff as usual buddy, and I gotta agree that Fiddleback is ageing nicely !

Might as well send me ya Fletcher knife now it's not being used !:D

Great pics bro. I'm pretty well doomed when it comes to plants. I guess that's probably something I should look into.

Crap more reading to do. I have so much to read right now it will take me like 10 years to get done.

Yeah, they probably get mad at us for burning their construction materials :)

Yep, definitely very well loved :D

Thanks bro, glad you liked the photos.

Well...I like the DF far too much to be getting rid of it, one of only a handful of knives that really fits my hand that well and I enjoy using as much but I have been considering doing a pass around with it, maybe let a few other people check out Dylan's work.

Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed them. Yeah the more I read the more I am amazed at just what all is growing around me and I still have very much to learn...and positive ID can be a pain at times.

we had one of those nests near the house. very near the house i might mention again.. took the 12ga to it. i normally leave nature alone but if you have ever been stung multiple times you sort of keep an eye out for those guys.

Every time I think I know what a plant is in the wild I think of that scene from "Into The Wild" were he eats the wrong plant.

Because of mom's allergy I spent a lot of my young life destroying nests on our land. In the woods I just leave them alone and move on.

Yeah, it can be bad to eat the wrong thing. I use a digital camera and a couple of university botany sites to get positive IDs.
