after a couple thousand kms its good to stretch legs anyway

Took some time out to check out the beach on the way to see my brother ( he lives on the opposite coast to me , roughly a weeks drive away )

this is in South Australia , a little south of Ceduna , apologies for the crappy pics , all I had was my phone at the time .

Still , in a 20 minute walk , we found enough to keep a hungry man alive , there was plenty of indications that there was better to be found if we took the time to look , but I wasnt in the mood at the time , too busy enjoying being on foot and having fun :)

First thing I noticed was salt bush berries , theytaste like salty grapes , and come in two basic colors , green / yellow and red , these were not the red ones .
They are made to be eaten with fresh oysters , or this is my serious belief anyway given that the oysters are usualy found along where the berries are and they taste so dam good together

I found this too , I dont know its name , and its not a great specimen of the plant , BUT , its edible , has a lot of moisture in it , and probably has the potential to keep you from dying if youre stuck in the hot and dry out here any length of time . it does grow into fair sized bushes further back from the water than this one was .

Found this on the rocks , I reckon if I was inclined to go for a swim there would be more gotten easily enough from the weeds .

Found this too , I reckon that on change of tide , there would be a lot of crabs around the rocks , they are not *that* hard to get .. note tho these are just rock crabs , not the big ones you get from trapping and netting , still its all food .

Just the scenery .. a phone cam does not do justice to the place tho , the temp was around 38 deg C , not a great deal of wind , a change on its way in , and it was just soo good to mess around and get my feet wet .

and lastly .. the rig we are using this time , $800 off ebay gave it an oil change , got rego on it , and set off for a meandering 14000 km or so round trip coast to coast and up n down catching up with friends . A dual cab toyota dyna .. a whole 1800 cc of pure motoring ummm "pleasure" ? it goes its cheap to run , it got us here to my brothers place now , and hopefully will get up further up the coast some before we turn around and go back again :) if it does go bad .... we walk away from about $1500 worth of car and buy another .... there are a fair number of near new cars we passed that have broken down on the nulabor road , but some how , the cars turn into stripped out shells real fast ... human parasaite behaviour I guess , I dont want to be leaving something Im still paying a loan on out there for that to happen to .

I just got in from crossing a long hot dry desert , having covered a few hundred km of the old dirt nulabor road for fun in that as well , the car is still dropping bulldust 2000 km later and its all thru everything we have too , horrible stuff but a hell fun road to drive, totally worth it , and I see people posting about snow? .. like guys , its summer , time of heat dust n flies ... not snow season :P here in aussie anyway .

Great pics, I always like your trip reports. I would love to see those places myself some day.

It looks like there is a lot of available food for survival there.

great pics!

i also traveled up the east coast in a old toyota hiace.

lived out of that thing for 3 months and it got my from sydney to cairns no problems.

thanks for sharing the pics.
