They have a lot of cool stuff on that site that I didn’t know I needed.
Glad you had a good time...

Looks like you're wearing gloves for this expedition. But I was wondering if when you use the Winkler without gloves that the jimping is hard on your thumb.

OP... glad you and the Winkler had a good time. I have an SD-1 that surprised the heck out of me when I got it and started to use it in the woods around here. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do. It took a bit of work on my Wicked Edge to set a 20 deg bevel on each side of the blade, but it's really easy to maintain now, it cuts like a dream even as thick as the blade is, and it holds the edge for a decent amount of use on natural, outdoor materials like wood, stems, branches, etc. I am really glad I got it.
Winter @ campgrounds, picnic areas & parks is the best time of year to be there.
Fewer crowds & no bugs!
For a cooking fire, I prefer the keyhole style. A teepee in the main fire for warmth & coals raked over from there into the key to cook over.
It can be a bit difficult to find rocks under the snow - but - logs can do just as well.
