Went to my wifes family land today to hang a few tree stands and do a little scouting before deer season gets too hot and heavy.
Land sits on the Republican River near Cambridge, Ne about 500 arces. And I'm the only person that gets to hunt it!
View from my favorite stand.(notice all hard woods, cottonwood, and cedars with a few others thrown in here and there)
Rear view:
Collected some of this Mullen for hand drill practice (someday)
Found several large patches of prickly pears, collected alot, but will save that for another post:
Some Poke Weed, from what I have been told can be very nasty stuff, but makes for a nice photo
Milkweed in the river bottom is already opening up and letting the seeds fly so I collected a tin full of ovums to play with later.
Saw several nice bucks as well as alot of good sized does, but was way too slow with the camera, but did get a few of these turkeys (whom are lucky I wasn't there to hunt as season started last Wednesday!)
Found this fox skull?? I think as there was fur all around it as well, picked it up for a future project
And some of the other goodies I gathered for later, Russian olive dry seasoned wood, cottonwood, some turkey feathers, and some wood I'm not yet sure what it is?? All on my handy game cart that I had used to get the tree stands in without killing my back.
And the best picture of the day, at least that is what my wife said
Almost forgot the picture of the knife I used all day, my DP Knives Campmaster, along with examples of the 3 common hardwoods in my area
Russian Olive, Cottonwood, and cedar
