COVID, lots of time in the shop, on a break, cough some dust out of the lungs, rub the eyes- do some photo work, hang around the computer, looks like rain today, was going to go fishing. Dang. I like how this one came out. I suppose I might add... I think I am really good at some aspects of what I do, but also kind of not so good at other aspects. I usually get really nice comments or bum ones, without a lot of ho hum in the middle. I'm playing, wanted to see what I could do with fossil bone. usually used in hidden tang, not scales. So had to fill the pours inside with resin before spitting. Experimented with a pommel on a scale knife. Liked the walrus theme, thought this might be Pleistocene walrus bone. I carved, lost wax cast in used water pipe copper. Silver plated tusks, Copper tube rivets. Played with wood sheath, usually not on large knives, so tried a new way to put it together. The metal bands helps keep it together. Wood is osage. Not often used. And snakewood back. Tried a new idea with leather belt strap instead of wood metal or plastic. I wired the leather rather then rivet, cut a grove in the back so knife hits no copper or rivits going in and out. Never did this before, works ok. Steel is my favorite D2. But I do not air harden. New quench oil, tried Parks. Yes a very fast oil on D2? Harder then the usual D2- gets 400 strokes on the brass rod test. When factory blades get about 50, and 200 is very good. Anyhow, yea just rambling, here all alone at the computer.... miss chatting at the shows. Dang, pictures not up on the internet- so how to insert? Hmmm I forget how this works. Hope pics show up.
