Maybe the wrong place for this question, if so please move it. As tittle says, what would be a good solution to permanently bond metal to leather. I'm trying to add a decorative strip of metal to a leather sheath. Thought I'd ask before I messed up. Thanks.

Edited to add that I don't want to use rivets or any hardware to secure it. Looking for a type of glue or epoxy if possible.

check out some of the epoxies. Most of them say what they will bond right on the front. Gorilla glue might work too.

Another option of course is to sew the strip to the leather. Drill or punch a row of 1/32" holes along each edge, deburr, and stitch. May not be possible in your application... I've seen photos of some archaeological finds of Norse leather sheaths with a decorative metal edge, but as far as I know they're all riveted.

Whatever you decide, please let us know the results!

A good piece of leather has two different sides.
The smooth outside and the rough 'flesh' side.
Mostly you'll have the nice smooth side on the outside. If you want glue to stickt to that side you have to cut trouht the outside and rough it up so the glue gets in to the fibers.
I've never epoxied leather, but at work we glue leather to leather, or leather to rubber. We rought the leather up (gritt 24, or with a tool

)
We glue the leather twice, first time is like a kind of primer, because the leather will suck up all the glue, second layer will do the job.
My guess is that if the epoxy is thick one coat will do. But rough the leather up, open the fibers!
