A way to tell you are getting too many HI knives...

I had just sat down last night after a busy day when I heard an ominous crash from the den. I ran in and one of the heavy glass shelves on my display case that had been holding a bunch of HI knives was tilted on its side and all the contents of the shelf had been dumped either on the bottom of the case or were wedged between the glass and the door. About 15 larger knives, YCS's, Garuds, hanumans, tin chirras, etc., etc.

One of the chapes had scratched the glass shelf, and a couple of the scabbards were marked up, but luckily the knives themselves were OK.

Evidently one of the shelf pins had sheared clean off under the weight. Guess I overdid it! Took me a couple of hours to sort everything out, get the broken pin stud extracted and redrill new holes and install heavier duty shelf pins, and then I took about 10 pounds of stuff off the shelf for good measure.

That's one way to tell you might have too much of a good thing... ;)

Oh well, if you think you have too many, you can always send a few to me, just to hand onto so you don't break any more furniture!

Man, I'm an open book! Gotta work on my poker face, or poker posts, or whatever you call it:D

Glad nothing really broke, and I ain't surprised the khuks survived!

That is one nice problem to have!!!

Norm?

Not to worry.

National Geological Survey reported several instances of "gravity spots" last night throughout the United States. They believe these spots are linked as a response to volcanic activity. That is, as a Volcano erupts, it creates a heavier-than-usual gravity pull in another section of the earth's crust.

It is not an immediate response, so it is difficult to predict when the next equalizing "gravity spot" will occur.

You're fine.

You know that you have too many when you start running out of places to put them.

I am now cash-shy ...just spent over $750 in vet fees for the pooch, made an appointment to get a crown for a tooth, and X-Mas is coming up.

Some of the latest YBBs are very tempting....

So that's what it was! (-: I figured it had to be some natural phenomenon. No way it should have collapsed when I could still see bits of shelf between the knives! ;)

If your HOUSE collapses, you may have too many knives.

Or a weak floor.

Either way, more khukuris = more help, compassion and respect for hard-working people in Nepal, thusly improved karma.

You only have the ones you were meant to have, so it is therefore impossible to be a bladehog.

Ad Astra

Just take down the old fence from around the yard, grab some wheelbarrows full of Khuks and some barbed wire and put up a better one

IF YOU HAVE -

One gun cabinet full, storage box under bed full, space under headboard book shelf full, hanging on the wall, in the garage, in the truck, under the computer desk, under the roll top, a few hidden in dresser drawers AND STILL LOOK FOR YANGDUS fine offerings.

hope you don't mind, Svashtar....but this made me laugh out loud....very loud. :D :p

Yeah, there's your real problem Svashtar.

Or just forget the shelves and go for a khukuri wall like one of our famous forumites :)

Or was it not enough shelf for the knives?

I wanna see the Khukuri wall. That sounds nice. I'd like to see a picture of your display, Norm! You guys are holding out on the pics.

I made a pegboard like Steve did, and have them in the closet, but my wife would freak if I started covering the walls with them! Although I think it would be cool, she has different ideas about decorating, and even "my" den gets her wall treatments.

Norm, in that case it isn't *your* den.:(

Yep, good point! I guess we kind of share it. There is a guest day bed in there, and her stuff on the wall and linens stored in the closet, but the closet rack and display and gun cabinets are mine. She wants the whole thing, but if the alternative is I start storing my knives in the front room I guess I'll get to keep it. :D
