Because of a dwindling supply of shear steel these 3 will be the largest ones you'll be seeing unless I happen to find another shear steel saw blade. All 3 blades are around 4 1/4", each piece is 8 1/2" overall. All fittings are wrought iron. The top two knives have Euro crowns from the same animal, bottom knife is handled with deer leg bone. Leather dye was used for the coloring. Sorry about the toe in the close up but it could be worse.......

Ray, as usual, that's some mighty fine work! Let's hope the shear steel knives don't go the way of the Dodo! :D

Be careful playing with those sharp things while wearing your sandals. I'd hate to hear that you introduced Mr. Toe to Mr. Shear Steel.

Mike, Mister Toe is sandle less at this time although I'm going to start forging some hawks, I'll make sure I have my sandles on then.

Those sure are some grand looking knives!!
The ferruls/guards are really nice and the way you dye the handles makes the knife stand out!
Fine work, Ray!

LOOOKING GOOOD!!!! Hey with the anchor chain will it be easyer to make the guards?? Since the are round.

Ray, mighty fine! I agree with the other fellas, you have to be sure you have the shear steel in supply!

IG, All these so called guards are out of wagon wheel. For larger knives the anchor chain works well but its a little large as it is for the smaller knives. I definatly plan on using it for fittings but there's so many other things that can be made from it. More artsee type things thats forsure......

Great stuff, everything! The blades, fittings, handles, and artist! (however, I'm not all that convinced that it's your toe we're seeing)

Robert, Its either my toe or belly button. Only two things I got that are that big........ Got to remember I ain't a Texan..... :D

BOY, That sounds like something that I would say. :D

As always Ray, nice. I really like your hunters/skinners. Hurry up and find another source of shear steel. I like looking at the pictures!

Hi:
Isthere a way to tell if a saw blade is shear steel? A friend just gave me an old saw mill blade. It is probably 5 ft. in diameter and he has more available if I want them. Haven't even picked up the first one yet. Plan on picking it up this weekend. Thanks for the information.

Marcel

Marcel, There's really not a good way to tell other than cutting off a piece and doing several etches on it. If it looks anything new or it has carbide teeth most likly not. The piece of blade I got has inserts but there made out of the same material as the blade.

Superb!!! All are SUPERB.

....all those deer carcases I've discarded over the years and not a single bone in the house. Darn.

RL

Roger, A couple years ago is when I got into the bones. There's a wild game processing place about 12 miles away. I made more trips there to get bone that I thought I was even nuts.
