I work as an apprentice to my father-in-law: John, who is proprietor of Zemknives - a local operation out of Connecticut.

This knife, aka "The A. West Hunny Cutter" was my first attempt at making a knife.

The steel is D2.
The wood is Thuya Burl

I can't take credit for the sheath, as it was John's creation and is stamped with the Zemknives logo.

This knife will indeed go in the coffin with me, as I procured the wood for the handle at the first knife show I went to with John - which was also the day I asked him if he wouldn't mind if I married his daughter.

This knife was made as a pair.
It's twin was given to my Uncle Ed, a man whom I have the utmost respect for. It's a pretty good chance that he too will be buried with his.

Enjoy.

I'd like to see some other photos of the knife as well. That one doesn't give me a very good idea what the knife looks like.

cool man. That's a very interesting design, I like it a lot!

I originally wanted to make a karambit knife... And it just took on a life of it's own...

I think you did several things very well, the handles (and the Mosaic Pins) especially look really nice.

Does it fit your hand? ie. is is comfortable to use or is it for Self Defense only?

Thanks everyone for the great feedback.

To me this was a great first piece - and I only hope to get better as I make more.

Hillbillenigma - It was made to fit my hand exactly.
It is very comfortable for me to use and I use it for utility as well as self-defense.

Before I made it, I read a great book by Steve Tarani on Karambit knives and other Filipino fighting knives and styles... Taking that as inspiration, I made the knife to be useful in a combat situation - if need be.. BUT - I also wanted to make it practical for basic "survival" in the woods, etc.

It traveled cross-country with me and not only did it make a great impression on admirers, but there was one situation where it definitely kept trouble at bay.

Nice looking first knife. Where in Connecticut are you? I'm about 15min. from New Haven.
