I decided to make a whistle out of the piece of wood I battoned

I drilled it out

A dab of interior/exterior wood glue to hold it in place.

I know my craftsmanship kind of… blows… :)

It works though.
 
there's a cewl kind of whistle you can make by sliding off the bark when it's realllly wet from Spring sap, and then you carve a fipple in there, and voila

I don't know what sprint is, ill have to look that up. I wanted to make a willow whistle in that way like I did when I was a kid, but I don't know of any willow trees locally.
