Winner, Winner, chicken Dinner!! See post 114!This knife caught my eye at the Oregon Show so much, that I had to have one! I have always been a fan of Flat Beveled knives.
They are evidence of advanced cutlery finishing technique. Only
the best Cutlers can pull off a nice one, as it takes a deft hand to keep the bevel even, all the way around the knife. If it is off, it really shows.
This antique bone looks nice on the knife, and the design is well suited for elegant or fancy handles, like Pearl or documented pre-ban Stuff (ahem).

This is a beauty, IMO. The lines of the pattern are just exquisite. The main blade has the lines of a larger knife, despite the compact size. Did I mention this knife is just over 2 5/8" long?? It makes the name "22 Magnum" very appropriate.
The springs are a little lighter than I prefer, but are quite adequate, and I am sure many will consider them perfect. There was a lot of "grit" in the joints, but a couple of shots of WD-40, followed by some repetitive opening and closing, then good old mineral oil got the snap working nicely.
I am the first to admit, I am prejudiced toward Barlows or bigger. But the WLSTs of Pertinux opened my eyes to smaller knives, and this "Little Big Man" has helped change my mind further.
Now I have always thought that flat, beveled knives needed some special name. I think they are sufficiently different and special to be called by a special or different name.
Think one up! If someone posts one you like, say so!!

I would call this thread a Give-Away, but I suspect it will be more like a Free-for All!
You choose the winner by discussion. If a name gets a lot of good press, that's the winner! If we need to, I will set up a poll of the top several.
IMPORTANT! This is based on the honor system. Please read this thread and enjoy it, but don't enter or comment unless you are a regular contributor to the "Traditionals" forum.
Think up a name for a Flat Beveled Pattern. Post one if you have one!! Win one with a name that might be spoken by your grandchildren!
(I hope this works!);)
Clarification: The patterns already have a name. What I am hoping to find is a good "style" name that brings to mind the special configuration.
We all know how "Barehead" describes a bolsterless knife. I'm hoping for a word or phrase that is a little more economical than "Beveled, flat-bolstered knife".

Hey great idea for a thread. Thats a very smart looking knife. The name that popped to my mind is "The Shuffleboard Jack." The pattern has a slight sleeve board look, but is scrambled or "shuffled" with a coke bottle pattern. I might think of something different later but thats what's sticking against the wall right now. The second contender in my mind would be "The Medicine Bottle Jack" in that its a mix of Doctor's knife and a coke bottle. Either of those names conjure a classic feeling I think. Those are my 2 picks, but looking forward to other folk's ideas.

1. Shuffleboad Jack
2. Medicine Bottle

It's been taken but "Square and Clean" comes to mind. Beautiful knife Charlie.

Best regards

Robin

I don't have a lot of knives, but I did have to look to be sure... I don't have any with a flat bolster anymore - I did have a #61 Deluxe that had flat bolsters and I liked them. Sort of a classy look.

"Flat-Head Jack"?

Here are a few more flat, beveled bolstered knives.

Reminds of a "Plateau" like you see in the Southwest, so I'd say a "Plateau Bolster"

Interesting Charlie...

Not an entry, just an observation.. The 22 Magnum is a reload of the Pemberton (same blades), a "FlatStock" (as in GunStock) Pemby if you will... they are peanut sized, so maybe also a "FlatNut"

here are some "FlatBar" barlows, not guns

and the stunningly beautiful "FlatIcon" Ivory Congress gifted me by Arizonaranchman

Jonathan,

Those pics of the Magnum and Pemby are excellent. In seeing them I just realized they're the same frame with different outlines. Pin positions are the same, blade configuration is the same. Size is the same.

What about something like "flat pocket" bolsters? One of the features I find attractive about this styling is how they disappear in the pocket...

The Flatliner.

I like it. This has my vote so far.

I vote for "Presidential" :)

Shameless plug Derek! ;)

- As a British fella, when someone says 'magnum' to me I think of three things; icecream, really large champagne bottles, and this guy

'Callahan' (Even if it isn't pattern number 44)

:)

Edit: as in, this one has Callahan bolsters.
