Well…today was supposed to be a day for hiking through the woods and trying out new knives. However the temperature and humidity were really high as if we had suddenly found ourselves in some equatorial rain forest. Because of this the look I got when I asked her what she wanted to cook while we were out expressed, with what I interpreted as some very colorful words, a questioning of my sanity. So…we stopped by a Sonic and then went for a walk on a wooded trail beside a mountain Stream.

We did learn that we think both sheaths are very comfortable to wear, we both had them on from the time we left the house until our return some four hours later with only a couple of funny looks from the waitress at the Sonic…we ate at the picnic tables out front.

She found a funnel web on a tree at the top of the bluff over looking the stream.

I find these solar panels and antennas in the damnedest places, I still wonder what they are for.
IMG_5628.jpg

There wasn't as much water in the creek as I expected there to be after all of the rain we have had, but it was still nice to look at and listen to.

IMG_5630.jpg

There are several tough old trees growing along the edges of the creek too.
IMG_5632.jpg

On the way back up the hill I spotted some mushrooms.

This is Lisa sitting on a rock above me giving me that sanity-questioning look again.

Then on out the trail

And then more mushrooms.

I found another one of those odd orbs.

Just in case it is some sort of alien seed pod I put it in a protective container.
IMG_5684.jpg

The woods were nice and breezy, but still very humid.

IMG_5683.jpg

Found some more funnel shaped webs…
IMG_5687.jpg

Some tasty blackberries.
IMG_5708.jpg

And a bug with some really good natural camouflage for his A.O.
IMG_5733.jpg

And several more mushrooms.

Then spent some time just enjoying the peace of this little field of ferns. Not exactly what I had planned, but I still enjoyed the hike…hope you enjoyed the pics.

Nice pictures. You were brave to go out in the humidity of yesterday. Around my parts it was 47oC with the humidex.

I love trees that can survive in the tiniest cracks and draw nutrients from essentially nothing. I often see pines growing in sheer cliffs like that out of just the smallest crack.

The bug is a kadydid.

Nice pics, but if it is anywhere near as humid as it was here, you are nuts for going out! I was sweating buckets yesterday from just being outside.

mmmmmmberries!

nice pics mistwalker!!!! i love the shroomie pics fungi are awesome!

Thanks! Glad you like the pics...I have a thing for taking pics of mushrooms

Nice pics, I like em.

Thanks man, glad you liked it.

Cool pics I like that bug

Thanks man, me too. He landed near me when I was looking at the berries.

Great photos Bro!!

Thanks William, I'm glad you enjoyed the post!

Nice pics, as usual with fun commentary. What knife is Lisa wearing?

Thanks Rocky, Glad you liked the pics and the narrative :)

That's the new one Bryan just made for her. We were going to go work with them and check them out but it was just too hot and humid for cooking or fire craft so we just hiked for a while.

Thanks Ken, glad you liked the pics. The humidity was really high, even under the trees it wasn't all that comfortable until around four or five.

Me too, we find lots of those trees here along the bluffs.

Thanks, I thought it might be a katydid...but I've never known for sure, now I'll remember it!

Great pics Mistwalker. Some of those shrooms are deadly.

Thanks man, glad you liked them. Oh...I'm sure most of them were, or at least I treat them that way....I just really like taking pics of all the different kinds that pop up here.

Yep...it was humid alright, I was sweating buckets too, and thank you but my sanity has been questioned most of my life :D

Nice pics. Looks like it would be even nicer with more water in the stream.

Yep would have been a lot nicer with more water, all of the pools big enough to hold a couple of people had four or five in them lol.

Hi all,
Hey mistwalker cool pics, the mushrooms and the landscape that you hiked through looks awesome. Lisa did not look like the was carrying any water were you carrying for the both of ya?
In the first pic Kathy noticed right off Lisa's knife handle and firesteel handle and bag matched LOL. So does your carry bag match your knife handle too? LOL
It looked like there were a few others in the outdoors to by the cars in the first pic.
Those black berries look so dang tasty LOL

Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Bryan
