Hello all! I wanted to share an axe that I made between yesterday and this morning. It is a wrap and weld construction made from 1/2 x 2 1/12 inch flat bar with a 3/16 x 2 1/2 inch piece of 1095 for the edge. The edge on this one is 5 3/4 inches long, the head is 8 inches long, and the handle is nearly 27 inches long made from curly maple. This axe is wicked sharp and I'll be sad to see it head out the door. :( Oh well I guess I will just have to make one for myself...

P.S. The runes read "Chopper"

Thanks for looking!

Robert

It certainly looks nice. How does it balance? It looks like a blend between an axe and hawk. A very nice blend I will say.

Thanks guys. I was stocked to see such a large piece of curly maple on sale for $7 and had to have it so I made an axe for it! Smithhammer, when I was taking photos today it was snowing and nasty so I didn't want to stay out long. I'll see about getting some photos tomorrow morning and posting them. OutdoorEnvy, I saw an old pbs video about Appalachian mountain men and in particular a guy who made rocking chairs that only used one tool and it was an axe about this size. After making this axe it definitely seems like the perfect tool for the job. This one is very hefty, when held by the end of the handle it feels just like my large felling axe and with almost the same chopping power, but the head is small enough for fine work as well.
