I am looking for a bowie knife that is not just cupboard showpiece rather a real working one....All I find is Cudeman, Winchester etc which are worth jackshit.........Now any of my bros around here has any idea about a decent working bowie knife???? Pls suggest.....

I got a "Working Bowie" from Michael Presnell, of Weaverville, NC. Forged 1084 blade with a walnut handle, that I have been very pleased with. John

Take a look at the Kabar Becker knives. Many would describe some of the models as bowies and they are certainly working knives.

SOG bowies. Their fixed blades aren't bad.

Randall bowies are pricey these days, but they are intended for use.

I like the Blackjack Classics quite a bit. My favorite is the 125. But they have larger models like the 1-7 and Halo.

Condor has at least one bowie.

How big a bowie type knife are you looking for? The SOG Tigershark is a beast of a knife.

Kabar heavy Bowie, Cold steel Recon scout, Cold Steel Trailmaster, Ontario Marine Raider, Svord Von Tempsky.... Many others that I am forgetting.

Get a Randall #1. They cost less than a Beretta Nano. Go to Nordic knives as they have several in stock. It will literally last forever. For half the price Cold Steel makes the Trailmaster that may be the top of their line. I have one of each of these and would trust my life to either.

Folding and fixed... They are workhorses...

Buck 119, 120 or 124 all really good knives built to be used. I like them all but I bet if you handle a 124 you will buy it.

What size are you looking for, what's your budget, what uses do you have in mind for it? If you want a big Bowie, look at the Ontario SP-10 Marine Raider, Condor Dundee Bowie or Speed Bowie, Kabar Heavy Bowie or BK9 or more expensively, the Svord Von Tempsky or Cold Steel Trailmaster, Laredo, or Natchez. If you're looking for something smaller, the classic Kabar USMC or the Buck 119 might be what you need.
