1- Patience is your friend. If you have your eye out for a specific knife on the exchange, wait. First one I wanted was a small Insingo. I lurked and lurked on the exchange for about 2 weeks, and nary an Insingo appeared. So I broke down and bought a small plain 21 from an online dealer (no Insingos anywhere online at the time) and within two days a used small Insingo popped up on the exchange. That's happened to me once or twice since then, too.

2- Start slow. Once you cross that $300 line the first time, it's really easy to lose control. I bought around seven or eight different CRKs my first month.

3- If you're looking for advice on your first one, and somebody tells you, "Don't worry, if you don't like such and such CRK you can always sell it back on the exchange and make most of your money back" DON'T BELIEVE THEM. I've taken a loss on almost every CRK I've bought and sold on the exchange. 9 out of 10 times.

4- If you get one that you really like, DON'T TRADE IT AWAY! You'll just wind up buying another of the same in a couple months.

5- All you really need is a small scotchbrited Insingo (EDIT: You only NEED one CRK. Trouble is, finding "the one" can be a very, very expensive process.)

I appreciate the wisdom but it isn't helping a newbie like me. I brought 5 CRKs in the last 2-3 weeks and is now looking for a River of Fire Large Sebenza and Bark Mnandi with Damascus, LOL...

The problem is while looking for the two above, I always end seeing something else I want buy but it's all good. My wife would rather me buy knives than smoking or something.

There were only 10 river of fire large Sebenzas made, It's a good quest but don't be discouraged if you can't find one.

I didn't realized I've embarked on the near impossible but it would definitely make the hunt that much more special. The RoF is the most beautiful Damascus IMO.

Great words. Except maybe #5. Can't seem to get into the Insingo...

I've gotten a Large CF and Small CF in the past month. One was a gift. One was a trade. I'm already lined up though. Playing it safe. Sold a bunch of stuff to fund a small inlay. MMMMM.

6- Scotchbriting looks silly and makes the knife slippery. Don't do it.

This noob is having a hell of a time convincing myself that i want a small sebbie....i mean shit, for micarta...it seems like I'd be selling myself short to get a small, when's a large is only 30 or 40 bucks more. When you're spending that much, what's the 30 or 40 bucks? I really like micarta inlay, and I like the insingo design, does anyone feel like the large insingo blade is too big???? I need some help!! Has anyone regrettes buying a small sebbie?? Anyone ever find themselves thinkin the same? might have to dedicate a thread to this.

Depends on your day to day EDC needs and what you can and what you prefer to carry. I got my first CRK a month ago----a large 21. Then I got a small 21. Both great blades. The small is one of my knives I carry daily to the office for EDC. And then I discovered the umnumzaan addiction. Love that platform. I started with am old pivot s30v with no LBS and them got a new pivot with LBS. thought I wild be done until I saw a Wilson combat old pivot with no LBS Zaan this weekend. Had to get it! Enough about the Zaan amd back to the small sebbie---- if you like smaller Knives the small sebbie is a very capable and sheeple friendly EDC blade.

For some the Large is too big and the Small is perfect.
For others the Small is too little and the Large is perfect.

Me - I like both but really love the ergos on the large. I have large hands so this may add to this fact.

I wouldn't get the large just because it's only a little more than the small.
Choose which one you think would suit you better.
You're not getting more or a better knife for the money, you're just getting a size up.

If the small fits your life and preferences better, by all means get it.

You're talkin' like an ultra- value conscious consumer (a person can spot a like person a mile away . . . :) ) Yes, I remember thinking precisely that same thing as well. Perhaps this will help -- the raw material cost of a high precision, part automated / part handcrafted product like the Sebenza is on the order of 10%-15% of overall product cost. The rest is labor, operating expenses, etc. The only costs that scale with physical size between the lg and sm Sebenza is the raw material cost -- the lion's share of product cost is size independent. With the lg weighing in at about 50% again as much as a sm, the sm costs 5%-7% less to produce than a lg; however, the sm costs 15% less than the lg. From that aspect, compared to the lg, the sm is a bargain!

Hope that helps. ;)

To me, the large Insingo has more belly and less point, and vice versa for the small.
If the micarta's the deciding factor, I'd go with the large. It seems to make a large fit my hand better, but makes the small a little less comfortable.

But hey, if you get one you don't like, you can always list it on the exchange for less than what you paid and drop the price every day 'till it's gone! (not bitter at all)

I don't have extremely large hands, but I'm a pretty big guy. I just picked up my first CRK, a large insingo, and I couldn't be happier. I'm sure I will end up with a small at some point, but the large fits my hand extremely well.

Your second paragraph had me laughing pretty hard after reading the whole post-thanks :D

I hope that you don't mind if I mention that I've made money on every CRK I've sold or traded-that feeling you have right now, that's BITTERNESS ;P
I couldn't help myself.
Very good advice, I could've used it a few years ago, thanks for sharing.

I agree 1,000,000,000%. I have done it to two CRK and sold them quickly after. I HATE that slippery feel. Might as well have butter on your hands...!!!
