My neighbor's son, James, is 10 years old and very proud of his knife collection. He's been bugging me about taking pictures of him with his knives and I finally got around to taking them the other day.

He wanted to make sure John saw how thankful he was for the knives John donated to the "cause." I told James that I'd post the pictures tonight and report back to him on what you guys think of his collection.

Although there are only 8 knives pictured, James wanted me to tell you that he really has 11 knives in his collection: two of the missing 3 knives are in his tackle box and the third is at his Grandfather's house. James is a rabid fisherman, so his knives see use in that regard and some light carving. He has made several walking sticks (thus far) and is planning on trying his hand at making an Atlatl.

I`m glad James is getting some use out of those blades. Looks like he has a fine start to collecting.

Very cool collection! If you contact John he can send you my email address and I can forward a care package to you to add to the collection. I love to fish as well and have a surplus of stuff that I would rather see put to use than gathering dust in my garage. What kind of fish does he like to go after?

Great start to a collection. I'd help out, but I have a nephew that I pass a lot of my stuff to. Good to hear he likes to fish. Hopefully we see him on the forums in a few years

Wow. That is very generous of you. I'll ask John for your email address. James is mostly into fresh water fishing right now: catfish, perch, panfish, etc... He caught a 12lb catfish about a month ago - I don't think I've ever seen a kid as happy as he was when he caught that one.

Saltwater fishing is really the big thing here though, so I expect James to get into that as he grows older. He does go crabbing a lot, so it's only a matter of time until he starts fishing the bay.

Thanks to everyone for commenting. You will have made his day. I'll tell him you guys loved his collection later today. In fact I'll probably have him come over so I can show him your thoughts.

Hi Tahts -

Nice collection there, James!

I see he has a Victorinox and a nice Spyderco - both great knives.

Indeed, his collection is much nicer than I had at his age - I don't think I even had a knife yet when I was 10.

Thanks for taking the pictures - I always enjoy seeing pictures of my comrades in blades.

best regards

Nice collection James,I sure didn't have any knives when I was 10 either, congrats.

It's great to see a young man doing things right. Good stuff there.

He's got a lot better collection than I had when I was ten!
That's saying something knowing your dad.
