A100?

Good day all,

I am looking to get an A100, but can't decide between the regular or mini version. Does anyone have one or both that they could post some pics and opinions of? I really want to know what the size difference is between the two.

Just for reference, I carry a full size commander and it is a great fit for my hands. I want this as a "tactical gentleman's folder" to use for all those mundane cutting tasks that need to be done, without pulling a knife that may offend those around.

Thanks

I want a mini A100, plain edge. Where do you get one? I heard they are made in batches? If so, when will they be out again? Please let me know.

Theres not a huge difference in size IMO. Heres a comparison pic of a full size with some popular blades. I have a few more comparison pics with a tenacious if you want too.

Sorry about the quality, the imaging software I used was horrible.

Hi Grover6 -

According to the specs listed on knifeworks.com, the mini is about 1.2 inches smaller than the full-sized version.

The blade is .6" shorter, and the handle is .6" shorter.

full size:
Overall Length 8.4
Blade Length 3.6
Handle Length 4.8

mini:
Overall Length: 7.2 in
Blade Length: 3.0 in.
Handle Length: 4.2 in.

best regards -

Just go for the full size. Better to have it and not need it than...well you get it.

Here's a couple of pics of my full-size A-100 with a Delica 4.

Thanks guys, I was leaning towards the full size and this just confirms my decision.

Thanks for the pics.

I got my Tan A100 from Warriors and Wonders, but I believe they only ship within Canada.

They're both less tactical looking than other Emersons. If you normally carry a full size Commander, then the reg. A100 might be the way to go. However, if your hand will fit the mini, then that would be less tactical looking, IMHO.

The above photo pretty much shows the difference. You're looking at around 5/8" more blade length & about 3/8" more handle length (When closed) on the full.

One thing that's impressive on the mini, is Emerson didn't make the liner & liner-lock thinner, so it is, relatively speaking, more stout for a small folder.

I like the mini lots better myself. In fact its my favorite Emerson which surprises me because the first time I saw it I thought it was fugly ugly. Its pretty nice though once you get it in the hand and use one. Kind of Puukko styling and versatile in the way you can flip it around and use it in about any grip, upside down, right side up, side ways. Just no real uncomfortable position with it really.

I've handled both. The A100 is certainly a nice knife but for me its just more than I need for most uses. The Mini A100 is a good small Sebenza like size in a lesser price. If you can find one that is.

That Mini A100 sho is a purdy lookin' knife!! I think I just decided the next one I have to buy!! Now it's the old Emerson waiting game.

my wife calls my mini a100 my scarry scarry knife. she thinks it's the serrated edge. i guess i use it more in a tactical cool way than tactically. just the right size. the comment about the a100 looking like a shank kind of cracked me up. wish the pocket clip was straight on it though. kind of bugs me. think i could have lined it up with my eyes closed better. it fits right in size wise with my kershaw leek, spyderco native and benchmade osbourne.

I have the A-100 and I like it better than the Mini that I handled at a local gun store. I decided to order a mini with a plain edge anyway. One dealer deals directly with Emerson and I've been on a wait list for months. The other dealer had one pop up available twice on their website but they said they posted it prematurely. They were to recieve several PE versions but ultimatley the PE ersions did not arrive. I might have to settle for a combo edge on the mini.:(
