Hey guys,

I've got a couple of newbie questions... I recently noticed some a2 blades for sale. I'm guessing those are pre-infi? Would they be covered by the same unconditional warranty? I've heard that the smooth coating wears quickly -- could you remove the coating, or would that void the warranty?

It seems the a2 busses might be "collectors" -- would it be wise to purchase one for edc carry -- or should i just wait for an infi to come my way?

Thanks for your time and suggestions.

It is my recommendation that unless you want to collect it, you'd be better off with INFI. It's stronger, and more corrosion resistant, and cheaper too! I'm not sure about the warrantee, but I'm sure Jerry would cover it if it fails in normal use.

It has the same warranty as the INFI warranty. The very first Busse advertisement I ever saw, for the pre-A2, ATS-34 Steel Heart I, had the same warranty. "You'll never have a broken Heart." (Wish I had ordered a dozen of them.)

That's the same ad that I saw and that's why I said they have the same unconditional warranty!;)

Don't buy em, in fact if you're tempted, just let me know where they are selling and I'll pick up them for you. You can even send me the money you were going to use to purchase them with.

From what I have seen and learned about A2 it's a wondeful steel. It's still used by many a knife maker including Chris Reeves. Of course it's not INFI but then what is? I have to admit I really like this era of Busse. Once you've handled some of these blades you start to really appreciate some of Jerry's earlier work, which makes it even better when you get some of the knives coming out today. Like good scotch, he just seems to be getting better with age!

Cheaper is a relative term, depends on what your looking at. ;) Even my BBSHSH2 didnt cost me what a LEFSH or a AK47 does. :D I carry an A2 Badger when I can, and I have a well used A2 SHSH2. A2 is one of my favorite steels, and it might be my preference for the older Busse's that causes that. :o But, that said, I do have a lot more INFI in my collection, so its all relative eh?

Though, I have a feeling that I am the exception to the rule, well aside from Wetdog :p and 1whobuys is in a league all to himself, that Chuckette is a user!

Yes, Jerry used A2 before INFI. My somewhat limited experience using a smooth coated Busse has been the coating has held up well; chopping dry hard wood will scuff the coating, but I'm sure this would happen to the crinkle coating as well. Removing the coating, like with solvent and hand sanding, would not void the warranty.

I don't think A2 Busses have any more collector value than similiar knives made with INFI, like a SH II or SHBA. If you prefer A2 and find an A2 Busse for a reasonable price, go ahead and use it. The older Busses are some of my favorites! :)
