A2 sight interference on an AR + Sight through mount for A2?

I finally got my AR built, 6 months and $1300 later and in between knife purchases I got her done. It has an A2 front post and I put a UTG A2 rear sight on it, but I was wondering if there's any way I could get something like a 4X scope on my top rail in a way that I can still use my iron sights and have no interference from them? Any mounting options / scope option recommendations would be great! Thanks everybody!

You may already be aware that your front post will "disappear" with 4X magnification, but if you want to use iron sights with the scope installed, you'll need a see-through riser. I believe the riser would need to be "high" or "extra high" to allow for this, which may put the scope higher off the rail than you like. I bought a cheap NcStar 3-9x40 scope for my M&P, and it needed an extra high riser just to clear the rail, and I wasn't trying to use the irons for backup.

I haven't tried this, but a 1-4X scope might allow for some degree of co-witness at its lowest setting. Not sure how accurate that would be, though, or if you'd have room to leave the rear sight in place. You might want to consider a slide-to-side or 45-degree offset mount.

These would be your best bet. There are many brands available now.

I hadn't even considered a slide to side mount until now, I had almost forgot they existed. I was thinking about putting a cheap NcStar 2-6X28 mm with a 1 inch tube on it, I hear some guys are having luck doing this with A2 front and rear sights using a riser and a cantilever mount on a smaller objective optic like this, but I feel like that'd be bulky and heavier than a cinder block. Any decent brands of 45 degree offsets you'd recommend?

I believe Surefire was the original creator of the Rapid Transition type sights. I have not used them, but I hear good reviews.

My offset mounts are either Weaver or UTG. However, I can't offer a meaningful opinion on their quality, as I ended up removing the scope in favor of a red dot capable of co-witnessing with my irons. In fact, they had both top and offset rails, and I had the scope in a normal top-mount position.

I know some people spend top dollar on their scope mounts, and that's fine if buying expensive optics, but I've never had issues with inexpensive mounts/rings; any legitimate problems were due to cheap optics.

I won't spend top dollar on my mounts because I'm only going to put a $30 scope on, IMHO the UTG sight I got on holds zero, stays on securely, I can't complain with UTG's quality. Trying to find the mounts locally today proved to be a little more troublesome than I thought, all I came across was a set of Extra high sight through rings that would work, but I wouldn't get a cheek weld, it would be more like a chin weld. I'm trying to find something online for a decent price and that's even proving troublesome from the old reliable places.

I believe UTG makes a removable base. I'll check mine when I get home. It adds some height for your scope. I added mine with the thought that I could use back up sights and pull the scope off if I need to.

Why do you want to do this? Iron sights are a backup in case your optic fails. If you want to be able to transition to something other than 4x for close targets then a side mount iron set would work. But shooting a 4x with both eyes open it wont matter if the target is blurry in the optic at close range. Your clear eye will super impose the reticle over the target as long as the paralax is set propperly.Google the bindon aiming concept.
Trijicon make an ACOG that has a MRD on top that would work as well.

I'd like to do this because I use my AR coyote hunting, I'd like a scope for the more open areas and my irons for the brush, just makes it easier for me. I was hunting with my .243 for the longest time but couldn't get those snap shots off in the brush when I needed to. I think the ACOG with MRD is a little out of budget at this point though.
