Hello everyone,

I would like some information about A2 tool steel, regarding it's strength, toughness, edge holding, cost & how difficult it is to work with. This steel is under consideration for a extreme use, survival knife with thickness being 1/4 inch for a large knife (8 inch blade, flat grind) & 3/16 inch for a medium knife (4 3/4 inch blade, flat grind). Does anyone know of any good suppliers of this steel? Thanks to all for responding.

Admiral Steel sells A2. Check them out.

Also, I don't know much about A2 per se, but Phil Hartsfeld uses it a lot for hard use blades. Also, Chris Reeve uses A2 for his 1 piece line-up. The Project I and II have proven to be tough blades and they are hollow ground suckers. Your flat ground blades ought to be fantastic.

A2 is a great steel for hard use knives.. I have used it for a while now with great results using Paul Bos heat/cryo treatment....
I get mine from MSC or Admiral Steel..

Take Care
