Sorry, don't really know where to ask this question (I'm "Noobish":)).
Please move if wrong forum.

I have a chance to buy a very nice Newt Livesay upswept skinner with guard and what looks like ironwood handle.
My Virus Software does not want me to look at his sight.

The blade is marked "A2L".
I did a little research online, and have seen the terms "Laminated A2" mentioned, but no details.

It is pretty much a mirror polished blade, so there are no signs of laminated (san mai) steel as far as I can tell.

Anyone know if he actually used laminated A2?
Would the "L" denote that?
Anyone use this steel, and if so any thoughts good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

It is a very nice knife and great price (locally), so I am probably going to buy it after Christmas, but was hoping for some more info first.

Thanks in advance.

I've never seen laminated A2 anywhere but who knows? I don't really understand what the advantage of it would be either. A2 is fairly corrosion resistant in comparison to O-1. 1095, 1084, etc.

Thanks for the reply, still can't tell if it is laminated or not.
I bought it today, could not wait (the price I paid I feel like I stole it!:)).

It is a beauty.
I have some truely nice knives, but Newt (being the ass he is), has made one hell of a knife in this case.
Fit an finish are EXCELLENT!

Mirror polished A2L (60-61rc per his info).
Not sure about the ironwood now, I think it may be some killer walnut with little black eyes in it (really not sure what it is, and the seller did not know).
You guys may have more insight.

Nickle silver guard, and spacers.
'94 stamped on one side, with Newt Livesay and A2L on the other.
4.25" upswept skinner blade 1.25" wide.

She's a beaut!;)

I will get some pics up sometime this week.

Keeper for sure, fits my hand like a glove.
First custom in almost 8 years!

The balance, the weight and the sharpness just off the hook!

I am impressed!
