AA LB as a chopper?

I know that the Argonne Assault LB was obviously not designed purposefully as a chopper, but could could it be forced into duty as one if the situation requires? I know you can't baton with it, but how about hacking through a large branch? I know it certainly could withstand the attempt and probably succeed, but I'm guessing it would take a lot more energy. Has anyone tried it?

Never used an AA but have handled some. My concern would be how much pain your fingers will be in after chopping. Thinking about it, the thought occurred to me that you might be able to use just your pointer and middle fingers in the last two knuckles and that might work. :D

Great point! I didn't even think about that, thanks for your help. It's such an awesome knife, I need to try to save for one before it disappears off the site.

I have batoned with loads of knives that have sharpened spines ... my serrated Nuclear TTKZ is a classic case ... pick the right sized baton and there is no issue ... you get a fire ready and the baton still burns the same with marks from the hits ... if you break it there is always another log to hand ...

The knuckles on that knife will create a bit of a twinge in the web of your fingers but like you say it could be done in limited amounts ... gloves may well resolve this altogether depending on how well your fingers fit the spacing.

The knife would be a lot more attractive to me without the "dusters" though ... Jerry did an accessory for the old SH series which bolted into the talon and ricasso holes called the Holy Terror IIRC ... it gave the knife a cutlass guard set of dusters which meant a comfortable hand grip for chopping ... this set up is much more practical ... the Holy Terror could also be used on it's own as a duster if need be by using an adaptor for a palm grip. Great idea ... made sense of the ricasso hole which was then registered by Jerry as a trademark.

only with a cali version IMO. THe single ring on barf is also ideal since there is still enougt room even without putting your finger in the whole.

Cali versions are still my favorite:thumbup:

I like the looks of the AALB, even came very close to getting one based on its "cool factor"---in my eye.

But, alas, I decided to pass because I could not convenice myself it would be a practical use knife (for the way I use knives).
So, while I have never held or chopped with one, I passed on ownership because of questions much like yours (that I asked myself).

Still, a very good looking knife and congrats to those who own one.

Although I think the AALB is a wicked-looking blade, I don't think it's very practical for much. I don't think it'd be comfortable chopping because of the handle... if you tried batoning with it, you'd have to get a new beating stick every run, and it's too big to be a fighting knife, if that's your thing.

So why do I still want one? :D
