AAA LED flashlights

Once again, I LOVE my Arc AAA. Used it last night while bathrooming the dogs and I'm shocked and flabbergasted that the thing SEEMS nearly as bright as my Inova X5 that has 5 LEDs and runs off two CR123's.

Anyone have experience with the AAA prototypes being sold in the closeout section of Peak LED Solutions' website? For $15 they look like a good catch. ;) I bought one in case they get snatched up.

Also, what exactly is a "2xN" light? They have a bunch of those in their closeout section, too. I assume it's a battery type, but how does it compare for runtime, cost, etc?

An N cell is a small battery, shorter in length than a AAA, between a AA and AAA in diameter (1.18"/30.2mm long, .47"/12.0mm diameter). 1.5 volts, capacity slightly lower than a AAA. 2 N cells is slightly longer than a AA, but double the voltage.

I'm certain they do, and I'm certain they cost too damn much. Try Best Buy or Circuit City. They were commonly used in older cameras.

Sounds like your X5 has dead bats, X5 should be easily 5 if not 10 times brighter.

Hmm...didn't think of that. I got the X5 on trade and just assumed the batteries were in good shape. I did notice the light is pretty blue, which I think is another sign of overextended batteries if I'm not mistaken. I'll be interested to see it when it has fresh ones in. The X5 definitely has greater distance, but for close range I am EXTREMELY surprised how bright the Arc is. But, with fresh batteries maybe I'll be extremely surprised at how bright the X5 is! Let's hope! :D

Thanks Planterz, I found it with the company name you supplied, but it's .net (not .com)

Hope that helps.;)

Here's a direct link to Peak

I've got 3 of their lights. Excellent quality for the price. Peak's McKinley 7 LED (hi-power) model is about as bright as an Inova X5 and their 5 LED Kilimanjaro is almost as bright. Not bad for a AA cell light. I highly recommend them.

I just got a 3 led AAA light from Peak, high power and brass body. This thing is very impressive in both design and function. Having handled then wanting an Arc AAA for a while (they are still on back order due to problems with quality of the electronics they were using) I no longer have a desire for one. For my needs, the Peak AAA is the superior product.

Here is the one I got, and 2nd day shipping was free :)

I've got the same light on my keys Chris. Sweet huh? :) It's my understanding they will have a 1 watt luxeon AAA light pretty soon. Looking forward to that!

Yes very sweet, Peter. The brass is dulling into a patina (tarnish) on mine that gives it a look I really like - well worn but still classy.

I think their Luxeon will be a must-buy, too. Might have to sell a knife or two to get it, though.

I have an Arc aaa which I've been carrying for about a year now and I love it. Although, I'm often in search of something new or better. Based on Peter's review I purchased a Peak 5 led AA. Its an outstanding product and I will probably purchase more of their lights in the near future. One thing about the AA is that it doesn't have much sidespill and Peter mentioned this in his review. I didn't think that it would be that much of a problem for me, but I soon discovered that I really appreciate a light that floods the area. This brings me to my latest discovery, the Dorcy AAA. I've heard the light talked about time and again on candlepower forums and I never understood what the hype was all about. Well, I finally got one and all I can say is its all that and a bag of chips. The Dorcy is a great size, light weight, has great throw and sidespill and its practically disposable for the price. I've been doing some comparisons with my other lights (Arc aaa, Peak aa 5 led, Inova micro light, Inova X5) and when you factor in the cost of this thing (plus you gotta love the tail switch) I think it blows my other lights away. I'll still be buying other lights but I highly recommend more people give the Dorcy a try.

I'm an owner of a well-used Arc AAA and I love it! I'm interested in aquiring a UV light head for it but I've been unable to locate a sorce. I read somewhere on CandlePower Forums that the UV heads for the Peak LED Solutions AAA will fit on an Arc AAA. Can any gadget-happy forumite try out that combo for me an let me know if they fit?
