I have a small LED flashlight that uses AAAA (4A) batteries. I went to two big box stores to find replacements and no one carried them. (even in the photo dept). My recommendation is not to use this battery in a survival light. It seems AA, AAA and lithium 123 are all easily available.

zman, Staples usually carries them. They are used in several models of Jabra bluetooth earpiecers for cell phones.

I agree, finding them elsewhere is problrmatic.

I got some at radio shack awhile back for my streamlight penlight. Might check there. My streamlights batterys did last almost a year though. Real pita to find replacements.

Some 9volt batteries are actually 6 AAAA size batteries set up in series to provide the 9 volts. You may be able to rip apart a 9 volt to get them, in an emergency. I've pried the top off of a Everready 9 volt, and there were 6 AAAAs inside. You may have to use a price of foil as a spacer if the length is too short.

Isn't AAAA the size you find when you cut open a 9-volt battery? I've done that. The ones in a 9-volt battery are often a little short; you may have to stretch a spring or add a ball of aluminum foil.

Posts crossed.

I don't consider that just for emergencies -- even if you can find the cells separately they'll cost more that way.

Yes, they're available in packs of six, wrapped in a rectangular metal container marked "Alkaline 9V Battery". IME, they must be decent quality alkaline 9V batteries, not the cheaper carbon cells, which usually have a stack of rectangular cells under the metal shell.

I have seen the Streamlight branded AAAA batteries at both Napa auto parts stores and Bass Pro shop.

Yup, this curious mind just took pliers to his last remaining non-rechargeable, a red Panasonic 'Special Power'. Fail.
