 After waiting and waiting on my S1, it arrived today...only to have rust on the handguard and the whetstone pocket was sewn on so crooked it barely fit on the scabbard. Rats! The distributor is replacing it, tho, just gotta wait some more (time to play around with my Scuba/Demo or the Tigershark, maybe both, hehe).
Happy New Year!

Whoa, Dude, the S1.... my favorite SOG !! Yes indeed !! Congratulations !! Enjoy !!

Major Bummer on the QA things !! But as wildmanh and I have been counseling Robbie R: just toss everything (knife and sheath) in salt water for a week or two, that'll clean things up and you'll never be able to find that rust spot. And the sheath leather will be transformed to almost good as new, just be sure to dry it out a bit and then soak it in a tub of Neatsfoot oil for a day or two. That errant stitching thing won't even be a concern after that and you'll have forgotten all about it. :D :D

Yep, over an hour of 2003 still remains.... I'm gonna logoff and take the SOG's out in the garage, fire up a bluegrass music CD, and do some razor strop sharpening in preparation for tomorrow's Prime Rib vs. SOG New Year's Day battle !! :)

Cheers,

Carl

:grumpy: :grumpy: Counseling ! Never !

Dwatts67, Don't listen to him, believe me, even though I heard several of SOG knives were put through extensive testing and hardships, including salt water, and a multitude of other things. And all passed with flying colors, HOT RIBS broiled in hot sauce were NOT one of their test as far as I know !!!! :p :p .
Glad you got your knife replaced, it is a true beauty !!!
But if you want, I am sure you could sink a SOG knife in Hot sauce for a year and it would come out perfect and REALLY shiny like New pig hunters. ;) ;) .
Robbie Roberson :p :D

Glad to hear it will be replaced. I am surprised at that getting out (the sheath). Rust can, unfortunately develop if not stored properly. Mine came wrapped in an oiled wax paper, which kept it all purdy-like...;) . I then wipe them with Tufcloth.

dwatts67,

If, after you receive the replacement leather sheath, you still don't like it, I have a nice custom Kydex sheath that is made for the SOG Bowie/Trident that I'd trade you something for or sell at a fair price.

Email me if interested. :)

Thanks, I'll letya know. The sheath was pretty cheesy for a $170 knife. I figure sh*t happens :D .

Happy New Year!

Dave,

Congrats !! The S1 is a great knife, my favorite. Have fun !!

And stay away from honeydew melons and cantaloupe.... those also ate the gunblue right off my Bowie.

Cheers,

Carl

Carl,

Carl blued one too, it turned out very well! :D :grumpy:

Dave,

yes, I've reblued both my Bowie and Recon Bowie when the factory bluing was removed by whatever removed it.
It naturally doesn't look as good as the factory job, but it cuts down the glare. I use a simple cold-bluing wipe-on product.

Way back last February I blued my SK-5 Tigershark, here's the link to the report. BadBobbyB had told me about SOG's Midnight Tiger and on a quiet Friday afternoon I got home from employ.....
here is the link with all the sordid details:
