hi there everyone of blade forums..
My name is Cam, and im trying to research the best, efficient, most wife approved economical machine to buy to form and make edges. I have been using a grizzly 6x 48 belt sander for making my blades but its not so hot for forming or putting a new edge to the blades. I am confused as to the best machine to use for the job. A slow speed wet grinder, like a tormeck, Jet, craftex etc... or go the route as to a 1 x 30 to 1 x 42 belt grinder. what shall i do

Cheapest 1x30 from harbor freight $40

Next in line would be the 2x42 craftsman $150-160

Then comes in a big step to a few other options.
DIY grinder $200-1200 including no weld grinder, GIB (grinder in a box), etc
Pheer grinders $875 and up
Grizzly 2x72 $550

If you are not sure if you are in this for the long haul I would go with one of the first 2.

If you are like me you will go in head first and get a GIB with variable speed and a 2 hp motor

I'd like to see myself in this for a the long haul. so you think a abrasive sander/grinder is best for what im looking to do, over the slow speed wet stone?

For sure. The wet stone is not going to remove metal very fast. Get a proper grinder.

While a 2X72 variable speed grinder is a superb tool for the job, a set of 3X10" DMT diamond stones and some elbow grease will put a superb edge on a knife.
