What kind of compound do you guys polish 416 with? I had the bolsters on a folder near perfect with green chrome and then a bunch of tiny little speckels appeared. I hand sanded em from 220 to 1000 grit again and before I touch em with the green chrome again I thought I better ask you folks. Thanks!

Just satin finish em :) What about some kind of pink rouge or something?

Is there any chance that your buffing wheel was contaminated? Another Possibility is that the 416 pitted due to oxidation. I have had that occur with blade materials in the past, even "stainless".

Thanks guys, I'll have to give that pink rouge a try!
CL, I thought it might have been the wheel so I raked it real good and it did the same thing. I don't think this would be oxidation. It wasn't visible till I buffed the steel. Oh well, looks like this one with be a satin finished knife.

I use No-Scratch Pink from K&G. Leaves them very shiny and doesn't put a nasty green tinge in you handle material.

Sattley, thanks for the tip! My neighbor had a bar of the pink no scratch and let me have a chunk and it worked great! Gonna be on my next order with sheffield's for sure~!
