Run by your walmart and pick up an Od-1. For $40 you get a great product. I love mine. It's like a leek without AO but the Od flipper which is better. The blade is less of a modified wharnie so it's better suited to EDC IMO. Just my $0.02.

I'd say go with a standard Leek or OD-1 like mentioned above. You can get both at almost any Wal-Mart. I suggest going there, handling both, then deciding which one you prefer and going with that. Both will run you under $50.

how about this!

Check out the Zero Tolerance 0150 Galyean boot knife by Kershaw, it's pretty sleek (for defensive purposes, at any rate!)

Of those I've had from among those you mentioned, I wouldn't recommend the Vapor II. All the rest are easier to open and better built. At one time, it was Kershaw's bottom of the line in price (and made in China.)

I think the Leek is their best seller for a reason. Easy to carry with a small footprint in your pocket, a nice assisted opener, and a sharp pointy blade. They come in lots of choices of handle and blades. The downside is that it is more of a gentleman's folder and isn't as heavy duty as others.

The Shallot is sort of a beefed-up Leek, IMHO. The Scallion is too small.

If you don't mind the grooves, the "Groove" is the similar to your Storm in that it is a frame lock and similarly sized, but without the pocket shredding grip tape.

Get a newer Storm 2. :) My Storm 2 (mid 2007) got the newer, rubber-like grip insert. :)

The Shallot, Lahar or Blur also a good choice IMO.

For a smooth-sided EDC (so it won't tear up pockets) for under $50 I'd also recommend the OD-1. Or, the Mini-Cyclone (or even the regular Cyclone if its size isn't an issue). The Cyclones have been recently discontinued, and are going for a song ($25 for Mini- and $30 for the regular Cyclone) at some of the online retailers.

I own two Kershaw's, one of which is the OD-1. Very happy with it as my EDC.

Kershaw Skyline @ wal mart

OD-1 is a great choice as others have noted. My Skyline also gets as much EDC carry. My Skyline didn't flip open all the way when I first got it but after adjusting and lubing it, It opens fast and smooth and no longer requires a wrist flip to open. Both have a finely texture G-10 scale(s) (OD-1 has one side G-10 and other side steal framelock) that may wear fabric but shouldn't be as much. The OD-1 is $5 more than the Skyline but it has some features on it that make it a great buy. Like the framelock with the lock bar stabilizer (aka Hinderer that you find on Striders and Aero Tolerance framelock folders and the retracting 'flipper'. Both have phosphor bronze bushings for smooth and fast opening. The steel is the same on both (14C28N), which is a good steel.the OD-1 just had a more slender blade shape. You can't go wrong with either IMO and I think you be happy whichever you choose. Or, just get them both. :D

Wow, what a welcoming board. Thanks for all the suggestions. I did not realize walmart carried kershaw. I think I will run over there and handle some of them instead of ordering online. Need something to complement my other EDC..

I just shot the XD-9 Sub Compact this past weekend. Nice little pistol! I prefer the extended mag on it though.

I carry a shallot every day and I love it. its a larger knife, which I prefer, but its thin so I dont notice it in my pocket. of course any of the other recommendations would be good as well.
