Question. I've come to admire both abalone and mother of pearl as decorative materials in knife handles. I saw a Spyderco native with a mother of pearl handle recently and foolishly let it pass. When I went back to buy, it was gone. Who has used these materials in custom and production folders? I've done thorough searches. Just covering the bases.

You might want to look at the Boker 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 model lockbacks. They are well made, nice size, and reasonably priced. I have the Red Bone, Thuya, Rosewood, & Mother of Pearl. They are about $120 ea, except that the MoP is about 2X that. Actually my favorite is the Thuya.

If you're in the market for a high-end production, William Henry has some nice MOP handled knives.

Queen and Case (and probably even other slipjoint makers do use both, pricing around $70 - $90)

Buck, Xikar, Al Mar, and Lone Wolf are some other production brands that make abalone / MOP handled folders.

William Henry has some nice MOP handled knives.

William Henry also has some nice abalone ones, too.

I collect MOP handled knives. I've found a number of beautiful old pocket knives in antique shops. The kind of operations that are co-op's seem to offer the best chance of finding them. It's a lifetime hunt.
