The Abelknife is actually a pretty darn good folder. It uses 154CM for the blade and Aluminum for the handles. They are well made and I think they look pretty good as well. You could do a whole lot worse.
answered this in another thread where I think you accidentally posted:
Abel makes some of the best flyreels on the market (I own several). Their pliers are nice but expensive. Comparable pliers (machined aluminum with replacable stainless cutting jaws) can be bought from cabelas for less.
Abel knives used to be made by benchmade but now they make their own. They have very nice 154cm blades and you can get them with some very cool anodized handles. Some of the patterns are really wild. However, the current production liner locks can be very substandard (my local flyshop has had 10 or so and 3/4 of the liner locks I would not trust)and I would recommend you inspect them before buying them.
Another negative is that they charge $35 for their sheath which is nice, but not that nice.....
Overpriced like most of the stuff in the inflated fly-fishing industry. Nothing against ABEL, they make great rods and sick reels, but the other stuff is available better, and for cheaper, elsewhere.
First, foremost, and always I'm a fly fishing nut.
Had a friend who purchased a pair of pliers from Abel. They were a real gem. I say "were" because they are now at the bottom of a local salmon stream. He cried like a little infant when they slipped out of his hand while unhooking a salmon. He replaced them with a pair made by Cabelas. If he drops them, he probably won't cry quite a long.
The pliers are the best on the market, IMO. I liked Van Staal as much, but they went under. Put a lanyard on them so they don't go in the drink. I've had mine for 4-5 years (100+ days/year) and they have not rusted and still cut mono cleanly with the original jaws. Classy product.
I have one of their early knives with FRN handles and a funny lock -- I think they called it a Neely lock. OK knife, I'd skip their knives.
