I am a lucky guy. I own a good many Custom knives, and my Grandfather-in-law, upon seeing my interest went through his stuff and gave me this knife.:D It is in pretty darn good shape. (He went over the blade with fine paper or wool, but.....)

It reads on the blade: "THROWING KNIFE Abercrombie & Fitch Co. NEW YORK" It also says: "MADE IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND" (on the small sheath s well.)

Any thoughts on it's age, popularity or whatnot?

Thanks in advance,

Jim Cooper

Did you ask him if he bought it new, and if so when?

Probably made between the 1930s and the 1950s.

Similar knives were made in the U.S., by e.g. Kinfolks.

Handles are red vulcanized fiber, relatively break resistant.

Abercrombie & Fitch was an upscale sportsman's outfitter, main store in NYC. No connection to the current clothing company of the same name.

Lots of folks collect anything with the A & F name, though the stuff they sold was usually of higher quality than this, such as Loveless and Randall.

.....for your answers!

He had said he got it in trade for something. Didn't buy it himself.

He has a bit if a collecting bug himself--only it involves pre-war Bugatti's! It's all relative....
