Abit lost choosing new EDC...

Greetings!

Recently (actually -- after Russia got some better kinife laws, making all under 6" folders legal) I finally decided to upgrade my EDC from Endura FRN to something more... substantial.
I finally decided on BM806, but it got suddenly disco'd, and I suspect that shops won't get it. (Have to deal with brick and mortar ones...)

So, now I am abit lost, and looking for a few suggestions.
What nice 4" bladed folder would you suggest? Requirements -- secure lock and handle, general use blade shape (no hawkbills, or daggers), pocket-sized compact, and the most difficult one -- style(few examples below to give idea of what I look forward...).

Currently thinking about:

BM 710. It is great (blade shape, size, lock), but that slight recurve bothers me.

BM910 Only if it was not liner lock...

SOG Tomcat. Nice, but too bulky.

Sorry if it reads chaotic, but I am really lost now...

Thanks beforehand!

Some internet shops still have the 806D2 I'm sure. Out of the ones you metioned the 710 is my favorite. There are also some spydercos to look at.
Other sugestions are the Almar SERE, SR rat trap, If you like liner locks.

The recurve can be a challenge for some to sharpen, although it slices pretty good as payback.

I love my 710 for a EDC, i think you will too.

Здравствуйте pyton357ru,

I own and can recommend the following three:

Benchmade 710
Al Mar SERE 2000
Spyderco Manix

Any of these three will serve you well until you pass it on to your kids.

I have heard good reports about the SOG Tomcat, though I've never owned one.

The slight recurve on the 710 can be a minor problem. I solve it by using the edge of the stones from my Edge Pro Apex. The Spyderco Sharpmaker should deal with it without a hitch.

For more "local" shopping, I remember that there was a quite good knife and outdoor goods shop in the Gostiny Dvor on Nevsky Prospekt in Saint Petersburg. I can't remember the name. Perhaps they have a web site?

До свидания!

Здравствуйте, maximus otter!

Thanks for suggestions. Went to the "Kilnok" blade show and tried a few variants first-handed(no pun intended) As many predicted-- 710 is a way to go...
Now the real problem -- somewhy there is no plain-edged 710 in easy-to-reach shops. Pehaps travel to Saint-Petersburg is unavoidable:) .

pyton357ru,

Perhaps a request in the "Knives, wanted to buy" section here on BladeForums Exchange would get a result? BM710s are common knives and often appear second-hand but in "as new" condition.

Most of my knives are bought from the secondary market.

Best wishes,

Unfortunatly, there is one problem -- called "certificate". Generally speaking -- russian knife laws are far to complicated to be throughoutly understood by average street LEO (they include HRC of the blade...). So special body tests lawfully imported knives and issues a certificate -- if piece is legal or not.
Generally speaking, having copy is not neccessary, but if cop is in doubt -- knife can be seized and sent for test. With nice potential of being "lost". Not that i get searched daily, but...

So I'm sort of a bound to Brick and mortar stores...
