Hello all, I'm looking for a little info on this Boker pocket knife. It came from either my Grandad or my Uncle but they're not here to ask.
Mostly I'd like to know when it was made, model name or number, and also if cleaning the light surface rust from the blades would negatively affect the value (not that it's for sale, just don't want to screw it up). Here's a few pics;

Thanks very much for any info

The Boker USA tang stamp was used from 1945 to 1983. It looks kind of like a 2157, but no way to be sure without knowing the dimensions. If you look on the back of the blade stamped Boker USA, the model number should be stamped, along with a tree. I probably wouldn't do anything further than a good coat of oil until you've researched it further.

Thank you RangerBlueDog! I gave it a wipe down with Kano Kroil followed by a light dose of Hoppes gun oil. Dimensions are 3 inches end to end, big blade is 2 inches, small blade is slightly over 1.5 inches. The Boker U.S.A. tang stamp is the only marking on either blade, no model number or tree. Where else might I look for more info on it? Thanks again !

At 3 inches, it's too long to be a 2157. It is the right length to be a 220, but I've never seen a 220 with the short bolsters like that. Definitely in the pen knife category, with a spear blade and a pen blade, like the 220. My database is woefully incomplete, but still growing.
Another way to close in on the manufacture date would be to determine if the handles are celluloid or a newer composite material. There's a way to determine if it is celluloid by rubbing the handle hard with your thumb, warming the material. If it emits a pungent odor it is celluloid.

I gave it a good rubbing but all I can smell is gun oil :). In the morning I'll wipe it clean and try again. Thanks again very much for taking the time to reply, I do appreciate it.

I wiped it down thoroughly with a clean cloth and rubbed it until it got hot. It had a little smell to it, but not what I'd call pungent. I smoke and have allergies, so maybe my nose is faulty. I'll keep checking in here to see if anybody comes up with anything else on it. Anyways, thanks very much for your help RBD. :thumbup:
