I wanted to post to Monk's thread, but it's closed.

I have three Kukhris. One is very old and has a silver hilt, I'll post pictures one day, in fact I'll do it now. That blade has soul and I wish it could tell its story, who owned it, how old it is and how it came up for sale in the UK? I have the major's kuk, and I know that was presented by his men and served Peter well in French Indo China. I wonder if it took lives? Finally I have a brand new kuk, purchased by the major in Nepal and it is very HI kuk. I know he said "it was a good one" and I used to keep on the wall next to the fire and used it for splitting kindling wood. That has soul as well, purely because it was beaten by hand power and mixed with sweat. It also felt good and was superb at the job I gave it.

I am fortunate to own about 60 bayonets, fighting knives and about 16 swords. They all have history, but not all have soul. It is something that you can feel when you pick them up. Sometimes it is just warmth, or sometimes it is bad, like a cold chill. Sometimes there is nothing and I can list a few 'copies of the real thing' that I have. Modern made, mass produced and no soul. Why an inert object should have this effect is open to conjecture, but given that some people can 'read' objects makes me think that we all can to a certain extent. Those of you that pick up a kukhri and say it feels right and not just feeling something intangible, they are feeling the soul of the blade, touching the soul of the person that made it, or in the case of an old one the soul of the person that used it.

Peace.

The little pouch contained a broken tip off a blade and a brand new, but rusty blade as well a little piece of cloth. That is a 12" ruler in the foreground. The scabbard had a split in the back and when a guy from the Ghurkha regiment was visiting the major I showed him the kuk in my bar and he asked if I had an old Coke can. He cut a piece out of it, folded it and slipped in the back of the scabbard!

If anyone can tell me anything about it please do.

Nice knife. Interested in the opinions.
