I built my burners according to Indian George’s' web site. My forge is going to have 2. I was wondering if I should buy 1 164 CFM Blower from http://www.blacksmithsdepot.com or buy 2 105 CFM blowers from www.grainger.com to power them. If I bought the heavier duty one and split it would it be sufficient?

This is what I have at the moment.

I cant imagine what you want to do with your forge, but all IG's forges only have one burner and easilly got to welding temperatures.....

Maybe 2 will be overkill?

Can't hurt to have 2 burners on a forge that big. Especially with that big of an opening, what do you plan on forging in there?
The cool thing about a 2 burner set up like that is that if you want to, you can make a movable wall for the inside of the forge and use 1 or both burners depending on the size of the stuff you're working on. I'd close it up alot smaller whenever you're not working on something that needs that much space.
You also might consider making a door for it. Make sure it has some vents so you don't turn it into a bomb, but for a forge that big I'd think you'd be a lot happier being able to close it off to heat up.

Ya don't wory I am going to make a door for the front. I just left it that big so that I could get the insulation in.

What do you think about my blower problem?

Sure is going to sound cool with two nozzels! From what I've heard about IG's burners, you'll only need one. If y ou ever decide to use something like T-Rex's or the like, you'll probably use two burners (no blower).

I think you'll be happy with two burners with a forge that big. You don't have to use all that space, or both burners all the time. But this way you have it if you ever want it. And someday you probably will :)

I don't know what to tell you exactly on the blowers, because I haven't used that style of burner. If I remember the plans right it uses a pretty large volume of propane (has an 1/8" hole for the orifice right?), so that is going to need quite a bit of air.

I'd say the one you need to talk to is Indian George. Find out what he uses as a blower (I know there should be some kind of insult I could put in for the old fart with that comment...... :D ), and how much he has to choke it back with the gate valve. If he has one of the smaller blowers and is running it wide open, then your probably going to want one for each burner.
If he is using the larger blower and has it closed off halfway then, you should do fine splitting it, as long as you can plumb it without making things too restrictive.

Forge blowers are a bit different from squire cage fans. A forge blower will deliver a fairly constant amount of air even if you block off most of the door ways. A forge blower is usually semiregenerative and will deliver the rated CFM even against a back pressure; a squire cage blower will not. I'm using a 135CFM forge blower with a .065 orfice and run my pressure from 6 to 14 pounds. I burn about a gallon of propane and hour. Most of the billets I work are from 12-25 pounds and rebound time is short, a few minutes. The forge will out work me doing two billets at a time. I have successfully used squire cage blowers but the forge blower works better...Take Care...Ed

At this time I have 1/8 holes driled in the caps that act as my jets. To use less propain I was thinking I could reduce the size of these holes.

As for the blowers I am set on buying the 164 CFM Forge blower from Blacksmithdepot.

I'll be sure to post a picture latter after I get it going.

:D THanks for all of yalls help.:D
