I post this here, and not under the "test and review" forum as it's not exactly a review... more of a praise, I guess.
I love knives and custom knives, but in the end the knife I've been carrying most is CRKT M16 EDC.
I've been using this knife this last 3 years, and it's absolutely FANTASTIC.
I own a lot of other knives fancier, from renowned custom makers, but this is just unique from a practical point of view.
I can get it, open it one handed using the Carson flip to switch it open, where it will remain open thanks to the automatic LAWKS safety, do what I have to do, close it one handed in a second.
It's like having a retractable claw, like that of a cat, in your right hand.
Simply fantastic.
Moreover I won't fear wearing it (and I worn one already, this is the second).
Try it, it's inexpensive and could be the best EDC knife you ever got for simple, everyday tasks.

they are pretty well designed but i really dislike my friends full sized black spear point version. the flipper hurts your index finger after just a little use and theres a lot of detent so the thumbstud is a little annoying. the handle feels like typical cheap frn and i feel that the autolawks sytsem is a little unnecessary so, not my favorite

ive had one for about a yr and never use it much because i dont know how to sharpen the chisel grind. Any tips on how to sharpen it on a sharpmaker?

the emerson website has directions on how to sharpen their chisel grind blades. it's the same way i use to sharpen my crkt M16. it's actually pretty easy

I used to have this knife too, I think I may have had an older version because the LAWKS system was not automatic on mine. I had to engage it manually. I liked the speed with which one could open it and the size, but the ergonomics were not for me. It would always scratch my hand when i reached into the pocket where it was riding to get something else.

I also was not a big fan of the sharpness. I got a Leatherman Wave around the same time, which was much sharper, so I edc'ed that instead.

i had this knife and the thumb studs fell out after some pretty powerful openings. prolly a defect but i just don't like them

I liked my M16-01Z but the open back allowed quarters, dimes, etc to intrude and blunt/ding up the edge. The low AUS blade steel (AUS-4 -6?) didn't hold an edge long enough for my jobs.

I love the design of them, but the couple I handled just didn't feel like they could take much hard use. The better models that follow that style (21's, etc.) are more to my liking.

thx - cpr

I never carry mine.

I HATE the chisel grind and combo blade (I've learned a lot since then) :)

As somebody else commented, the pivot screw and thumbstuds have a REALLY rough texture on them, and it scratches the back of my hand when I try to get something else from my pocket.

LOVE the flipper, and unlike most people, AutoLAWKS doesn't bother me one bit, but the things I mentioned previously are a dealbreaker, it just sits on the shelf. I'd love to trade it for something, but unfortunately it's pretty much worthless.

I am a fan of the "Chisel Grind" as well as the CRKT M16. I carry mine on and off through the week. Most often when I ride my motorcycle because the knife is so light and comfortable. Mine has the Lawks system but it's manual. The CF Scales are nice and strong and have very good grip for what I do with it. The flipper works great with the slightest flick of the wrist. Great offering from CRKT!

Have owned my pre-LAWKS M16Z for almost 10 years, holds an edge very well and easy to sharpen & maintain. No complaints about mine.

I bought mine without the useless "tanto" point, and smooth edge. ;)

I like them for the price point, Ive had my M-16 for about 8 or 9 years now. I just wish I could carry it tip-up

the ti and carbon fibre M16's are imho the best CRKT makes, better steel in the blade and a lot better F&F than any other CRKT i have seen, of course they are a bit higher priced too.

I like the Kit Carson design also. Its nearly perfect for me. I like to see a drop point blade and a wharncliffe blade offering.
