Hello.

I live in Florida and I have a higly vested interest in owning a double edged knife.
It would be shipped or IMPORTED to Florida to my address, I live in an area where it is legal to own one but not carry. Which I do not mind.
I just do not want to spend money only to have it taken at customs. But its legal to own where I am so. Any input?

I still have no idea. Its as if there are NO laws with importations.
Its a blade that is custom made over in the U.K. all handmande, expensive. But the law states that I can own a double-edge but not carry it concealed. So that means
I could walk into a store selling one, buy it, then take it home. So I would be buying this blade and then having the postal services take it to me.

State law has nothing to do with importing a knife from the UK into the USA; that's Federal.

Is it a fixed-blade, conventional folder, or automatic (i.e. "switchblade")?

As I recall, Florida issues a Concelaed Weapons License which applies to more than guns. You may want to get one of these licenses just as a nice surity.

Importation is only subject to federal law, and federal law only places restrictions on push-button automatic knives, and to a lesser (almost non-existent) extent, butterfly knives. If it is a fixed blade dagger, there are no restrictions on importation into the US.

Here's Chapter 29 of the federal Commerce and Trade title:

Regarding your question about store purchase, even in areas were carry is illegal, in practice taking a packaged up item home with receipt in hand almost never results in legal trouble. Only way it possibly could is if you have given the officer in question a strong non-knife related reason to dislike you. Last time I checked cops don't walk up to every single person with a shopping bag and carefully inspect each box inside, unless they are looking for an "excuse" charge.

It is a fixed-blade double edged knife, handmade in Britain. I would need to order it, have it pass through customs; then shipped by USPS or UPS to my house. Then its HOME.

so will it pass through customs without being juggled around by them and confiscated? or would I have to pay any fees or something to get it to here?

It will pass through customs just fine, no special fees or fines. Just keep in mind that normal loss and theft are still remote possibilities.
