Hello!

Hope you are all doing great out there!

I am new to the forum and I am exited about being a member of this community!

So I really like the Kershaw Blur BLACK, SERRATED folding knife. This will be my 3rd EDC knife and my first Kershaw. Before I had two, made in China Spyderco Tenacious, that had 8Cr13MoV blades. I first had the plain edge Tenacious, paid like $29 on Amazon, about 5 years ago. That one got lost, it was my first EDC and for being the first one, it was not bad, heavy duty, reliable and durable, except the edge holding was not so good, but you can't complain too much about these economy value 8Cr13MoV blades and for the total price of the knife, $29, it was good for the money. After this one got lost, I got another Spyderco Tenacious, for $42, two years ago, this time it was a partial or half serrated black coated one. I also like this one as well, but unfortunately also got lost.
So I have had little experience with folding knives, just those two Spyderco Tenacious and I just chose those two mainly because of the price and because of Spyderco good reputation. I always seem to have something about some Kershaw knives designs while I browsed for knives. So I went ahead a pulled the trigger and got me a Kershaw Blur Black Serrated Model1670BLKST with Sandvik 14C28N steel blade, for $58.95 on Amazon.com. I am just a little worried about some things I have read on the interntet, pretty much all positive things, except some negative things about the locking mechanism’s proneness to failure, this person said:
''The liner lock failed on me as I was cutting into a block of wood which resulted in the knife closing and cutting into my hand.''
''The thumb button is a bit small and tough on the thumb after repeated openings, even though it works well to open the knife.''
''The pocket clip on the Ken Onion Blur is really, really tight. It’s so tight that when you draw the knife from your pocket, your pocket will try to come along with it.''

So the few bad reviews that I have seen for this knife, are mostly about the liner lock mechanism, but I think that could have been user misuse or just a small percentage of factory failure, since this liner lock mechanism is used on several other Kershaw knives and I don't see so many bad comments on them.

So that's it!

I would appreciate any comments/feedback on this topic in advance!

Have a great day!

Regards,

Javier

No need to worry on any account. I have had my fare share of blurs over the years and even mixed and matched them to be frankenblurs and never experienced any "failures". I am actually carrying my work franken blur today and have really used it from cutting peg boards to drywall and everything in between. Never had a lock fail. I think you hit it on the head when you stated
I think that could have been user misuse

Quit worrying and get excited for your first blur!

The only warning you should really pay attention to is this: Once you have one you might not be able to stop! Blurs are contagious!

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your new purchase!

Thanks a lot for your comments bad_juju, I really appreciated it!

Yeah I am actually super thrilled about this purchase! My first Kershaw and my first Blur! Also my first made in USA folding knife! Can't wait to received it, it should be in about a week! I think $58.95 for the kind of quality of this knife, it's really an amazing price!

I really wanted for so long to have an excellent build quality, durable and most of all really sharp and good edge retention multi purpose folding knife, that did not cost a fortune and I seems that I found it!

welcome to the forum,
rest assured, I've NEVER had an issue with any of my blurs. I will say the clips are tight. can easily be bent a tad and that works for me. you'll not be disappointed. enjoy the forum. good info and great company. best to all.

I've never had an issue with the pocket clip being too tight. I think it's completely adequate. The cold steel recon clip is the definition of too tight.

The liner lock won't fail on you, and it only failed on that guy because he's trying to cut into a BLOCK OF WOOD. Use an axe or even a fixed blade for that..

I consider my hands on the large side, I'm 6'2, 175 pounds and I DO NOT think the thumb studs are small. I actually love the thumb studs. I think they're perfect.

Great work knife imo.

Blurs are naiizzzeeee congrats friend!

Since you've found your self here because you keep losing your blade, maybe a more secure pocket clip is a good thing! You can always bend the clip to your liking .

The thumb studs are nice and make for a positive opening. If your thumbs are hurting or getting torn up you're probably flicking it too much. And if you want to flick it too much boy you better earn your calluses (like me :)).

A lot of locks can accidentally be unlocked.

Delica, mini grip and blur are some of the all time best under $100, 3" edc's ever made.

. I have same knife and had no troubles. One time......I DID drop it onto a cement floor and the knife popper right open. I thought it was weird....couldn't get it to do it again when I tried. Get one.
Blurs are cool

Hello everyone, hope that you are all doing great!
So I got my first Blur about 3 weeks ago and I am really happy about it! The knife design is just awsome, I always liked it since the first time I saw it in pictures and now having in my hands it looks even better! The blade out of the box is crazy scary super sharp, has easily shaved hair! The knife feels great in my hand, perfect weight balance. My previous folding knives where 2 Spyderco Tenacious which had G10 handle, so I am more used to that grip and have not yet gotten used to the Kershaw "Trac Tec inserts" grip. I mean I know the Blur is not going to slip from my hand, but I think the G10 handle felt better in my hand, although I am sure that I will get used to the Kershaw Trac Tec inserts grip handle. I really really and I mean really like the Kershaw Speed Safe opening mechanism. I just never get tired of opening and closing this folding knife. The liner lock is great, no issues at all with it. The pocket clip feels great, works just like I would expect. I have not being able to put this knife to real heavy duty testing yet, but I am sure it will do great! These are my first impresions of this knife that I mention on my original post and I am really loving it! Superb Kershaw quality! Made in USA!

How on earth do you manage to put enough negative pressure on a knife when cutting wood to close it? I wonder if this person knows that using the sharp edge to cut with works much better.

Yeah you find some dumb comments on some people's reviews, but of course I found it weird and then ignored it and got this knife and could not being happier!

I forgot to say about the "thumb studs", they absolutely great in my opinion! They really feel great on my right thumb (I am right handed), they could not be better!

I would take the best care of this folding knife and try my best never to lose it or mis place it because I really like it!

The good thing is that if that unfortunatelly ever happens, it has a great price, just under $60 which one of its super awsome things about this super cool knife, so it could be replaced more easily

If you want a great deal on them, check out kershawguy.com, he's a supporting dealer here so I can mention him by name. He's got great deals on new and blem Blurs.

Well the Kershaw blur liner lock was pretty early which led to lock slips, but I believe they have already solved the issue, so don't worry bud, enjoy that knife of yours!
