hi str....i just got my blur back from kershaw from warranty....they fixed the torsion bar for me......i was using it for a day or two ....evrything fine and dandy and then all of a sudden i closed it and heard a weird noise....imagine closing it....and the very top of the spine rubs against the inside of the folder....it is basically off center.....can i fix this myself....ever since i got it back too it sounds like there is some kind of grit inside it.....it makes almost a crunching noise when opened and closed.....mind you i have NEVER taken apart a folder....thanks for any tips on what to do.....ryan

Yes I noted with my own Blur that it was a bit finicky about pivot setting. I suspect that all it is is the tension or lack of tension on the pivot screw.

Chances are it can be adjusted to its sweet spot. Trouble is it may be hard to find that sweetness! The tolerances are quite tight in those but you can adjust the pivot screw yourself and it will not involve taking the folder apart.

It dragged the sides on mine when I took it apart and then put it back together. I did that to take the torsion spring out. I preferred my Blur without it in there personally but I did have to play with the pivot to get it back where it belonged for tension and blade position.

If you can't figure it out I'll be happy to look at it but Kershaw will also I'm sure.

so essentially you are saying to loosen and or tightn the screw at the pivot....where do u get the allen key for it.....is it a regular one you can get at a hardware store?.....thanks for all your help str......ryan

Sears. Its a torx and I believe if memory serves me correctly its a T8 size.

Lowes doesn't have them here. Sears did. Ace Hardware probably will have something also. Sears recently revamped their packaging though so it may not be available as an individual anymore. In other words you may have to buy a kit of 4 or more in various sizes. They still are reasonably priced though usually.

Ironically the USA made Craftsman don't fit the screw heads as well as some of the China made generic knock off brands sold cheap in bins at Sears so don't discount those if they have a cheap kit. I've used a set of Torx and Phillips drivers for a year or more a whole lot from K&R that I picked up at Sears. The T6 driver in this kit is much better than the T6 in the Craftman set I have even though the K&R is China made and a third the price. Go figure.

thanks for the help str.....i tried loosening the screw and it worked perfect.....the screw at the pivot wasn't actually the problem.....i loosened on of the little screws on the side of the knife and that worked.....back to smooth opening......thanks again.....ryan

Oh man!I just ordered my first blur(sg2 laminate). It kinda sucks to hear people are having problems with them.:grumpy:

I would not call this minor issue a problem.

Yeah I hope not.I've been reading a lot about torsion bars breaking, but it's never happened to me.Guess I've been lucky.;)...then again,I'm not constantly flicking it open & closing it.I'm not saying everyone else does that either.

There are little issues here and there with virtually every knife out there. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Yeah I can understand that.I've really never had a problem with any of my folders, but I don't really beat the hell out of them either. If the task at hand calls for a lot of force,I'll just use a fixed blade.

i wouldn't call it a problem....i had my blur and used it constantly...i sent it back to kershaw and they promptly replaced it for free and sent it back....it was perfect....i don't know what made the blade start rubbing on the inside of the liner but it happened...it literally took me 10 seconds to adjust it....and i have no idea what i am doing.....absolutely no idea.....i love the sg2....i realized i am not a big fan of the steel kershaw is using though.....ohh well.....it's stilla great knife indeed......ryan

That SG2 is impressive fur cutting performance no doubt about it. Top shelf. The CPMD2 Tyrade is also and one of my favorite offerings from Kershaw ever!
