are there suppose to be washers inside the MT amphibian, i opened mines up and there was no washer except for this one really thin piece that looked like it was all messed up (like all bent and wavy) it doesn't look like there is any space for washers and the action is really not smooth at all.

Manji---That wavy bushing is a very precisely-made thrust bearing. That's the way it's supposed to look. If the action is not what you expect it to be, I'd send it back and let MT get it right for you. Good luck.:)

doh! putting it back in as we speak, thanks for the info, i mean i wouldn't say it's not smooth but i was really expecting more, at least close to the smoothness of a axis lock knife, and i don't understand why they didn't use some bronze bushings which would have made it much smoother

Make sure everthing is clean and use a decent lubricant and you will probably be OK. BTW, I have an Amphibian and it's IMHO, a terrific knife. MT uses the same basic construction on most of it's folders.;)

well i just find it weird that it doesn't have washers, it's just the metal rubbing against the inside of the knife which is hard anodized so the friction doesn't allow for too smooth of an action. But other then that i think this is a very good knife, the handles are perfectly machined and fit and finish is excellent, it's really good quality imo just the action is a little lacking

That is the way Microtech makes their knives (and damn good ones I may add).

The, "really thin piece that looked like it was all messed up (like all bent and wavy)" are the thrust bearings (or washers) and are made that way.

What you can do is take the knife apart and clean it (all of the parts) with warm water and a mild liquid detergent. Towel dry but ensure that it's completely dry (you can let it air dry or use a hair dryer). If the washers aren't shiney. . .take some "000" steel wool and shine them up (won't take much). Get some good lube (MilTec, Sentry Solutions, Rem Oil, etc.). . .I prefer Sentry Solutions Hi-Slip Grease. . .and apply/evenly disturbute a small amount of lubricant to the thrust bearings. Put the knife back together and wipe it down with a Tuf-Cloth.

Should be in superb working order after a bath and lube !

If not. . .you need to send it back to Microtech.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how it turns out.
