I recently acquired what appears to be a quite old khukuri. It is 13 inches long, with a bone handle and silver inserts and a nine inch blade. There is a lion head at the butt of the handle and there are 2 miniature (3 1/2inch) khukuri, with bone handles in the sheath.
There is a spiral of dots in semi-flower shapes down the length of the blade.
The scabbard has a metal tip and appears to have been used or at least carried quite a bit.
Could anyone tell me something about this knife or one like it?

Jon, from your description it sounds like an Indian 'tourist' knife and may not have the age you think. Without a photo I am just guessing though.

Thanks guys, I'll have to get it to my brother-in-law to use his digital camera.
It may be a tourist knife, but it came from an estate sale and had been in his possesion for about 60 years.
