I will no longer be accepting orders by phone, emails only! I`m still sitting on the EDC Kephart, because the customer is not returning my calls. At least by email I have a record of trying to contact them before I just offer it for sale.

Makes sense,it's much easier to keep track of & save all communications by Email.
If the the person that ordered the EDCKep doesn't want it or can't pay he should at least man up & tell you.
Not communicating is plain ol' rude.:thumbdn:

I even said in my message, even if you don`t want it, let me know, I will sell it. I`ll give him until Monday.

Well this problem is solved by your other new policy - you pay for materials up front.

That will make people more apt to follow up when the knife is complete.

Screw that. If he isn't responding post it in the exchange and get your money. Your too nice John :). I hope he comes through and calls you back but either way I'm sure it will sell quick

I agree with this. The upfront money is a nice motivation for those who might be apt to change their minds.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to have people pay in advance, full price. Human psychology is interesting in this regard. If someone is told, "if you want one of my knives, you pay in advance", they usually take this seriously, and value the product more. Don't want to pay in advance? Plenty other knife makers will let you pay incrementally for a knife. That's for all new customers. Somebody who you have done business with, and will not screw you, that's a different story. Just my two cents

John is different than a lot of makers especially with his time frames on knives. when he says your knife will be done around this time it usually is. however I will say this. after my experience with a few other makers who I paid up front for the knife I will never do it again. they said oh it will be done around this time. it took one of them almost a year later to get it to me and that was after constant emails and phone calls. the other one took a extra 6 months. I have noticed that when someone has your money for something they are making they often loose the sense of urgency that they normally have when trying to finish up to get paid!

However as I said John has always been extremely prompt and on time with his blades. also though I have never paid up front for one. I have no problem paying for the materials up front that way both parties have something vested in the project.

Yeah, it's usually more beneficial when both parties have something on the table. It's probably a long overdue policy.

Grunt what you said is the other side of the equation. Of course there are people who get your money in their hands, and lose motivation--that's on them. Since John is not that way, even more reason to request payment up front, and his reputation of promptness will follow him. I've only been on this forum a few weeks, but I am simply stating my opinion. If someone made knives that I wanted to buy, and requested full payment, I would gladly pay;and I stand by my statement about human nature. People want to own the high quality product and they expect to pay full price up front. My 2 more cents
