I will be buying a spyderco knife in the near future. (This is the brand i like)

I have a quesiton about plain edge and serrated edge blades.

I have alway used serrated edge blades for as long as i can remember.

I am thinking about getting a plain edge knife.

Will i loose anything, or any cutting ability if i get a plain edge?

Or maybe it is a mental thing.

I personally like a plain edge better. Easier to maintain a sharp edge. What are you using the knife to cut? I suppose in some instances a serrated edge would be a bit better.

I'm a plain edge guy myself, but I do recognize that a serated blade may allow you to cut certain items (tomatos) better over a long period of time. A sharp plain edge will certainly do the trick as well, but you really need to keep it sharp.

I think that a well maintained plain edge can do anything a serrated edge can do, but still be more versatile.

I have been using serrated edge ever since I was in a car accident. I had a spyderco delica and it has a serrated edge. I used it to cut my seatbelt and my friends seat belt. ever since that i have never looked back.

But I would like to try a plain edge. I just have not used one in a long time. even my kitchen knives are serrated edge.

New year maybe a time for change.

i like partially serrated quite a bit, my edc doesnt have serrations but several of my back ups do, if you dont cut a lot of coarse material like rope you probably wont notice a difference. Serrations cut better on cardboard though.

I like both but not on the same blade. I want either full PE or full SE.
There are some advantages to a full serrated fighting folder.

That's why I love my Spyderco C44P&S Dyad. One full serrated blade, one plain edge blade, together in one package. I find that I use the serrated blade more than the plain, but I carry several plain edge knives as well. Overall, the serrated blade is a very small fraction of my total knife use.
