I am considering an Al Mar Operator. I like everything about the knife except the handle. I've done a couple of kits, and fashioned my own folder scales from wood. Would it be prectical to replace the scales on the Operator with something like Micarta Linen or even G10? I know that G10 is available in a variety of colors and textures. How about Canvas Micarta?

From the pictures of the knife it looks to me like it will be a bit challenging for the finger guard portion where the scales flare out some to form like wings so to speak, to keep your hand from sliding up onto the cutting edge. I imagine that you will need to route or machine out that part of whatever handle material you choose to fit like the original scales. Certainly a project that can be done but it may be difficult without certain tools.

Another option if the full tang portion of the knife is not the exact shape of the handles is to at least glue in a spacer where the metal ends and the scales go up to form the guard. It is hard to tell from the pictures if the tang is also shaped like a guard also. If that is the case it is a simple matter to replace the scales from what I can tell.
