About Ronin

Used as a neck knife the sheath is reasonable in size. The TecLock does add to the bulk when used as a belt knife. I'd recommend you try River City Sheaths or try Normark here on the forum for a less bulky custom sheath.

One reason for the width of the sheath is so the tunnel loop will be long enough to keep the sheath from pivoting into various positions. I have some older types of neck knives, and the sheaths will not lie flat, so that the knife is not in a consistent position. The Ronin seems to stay in position much better. The Tek-lok can be simply removed for neck carry, and this is recommended by Michael Janich. IMHO, the only thing that really matters for neck carry is the thickness of the sheath and knife, and removing the Tek-lok takes care of that. On the other hand, trying sheaths from the various custom makers is a pleasurable pastime in itself. I have some very good quality sheaths for other knives from Skunkworks and www.survivalsheath.com . Robert Humelbaugh of Survival Sheaths is particularly prompt, in my experience. EDIT: Another reason for the width of the sheath is so the thumb can be used to push against the sheath as the knife is drawn. This is especially helpful when discretion is important.

roshi and Rex G,
Thank you for your suggestion!

I recently made this Spyderco Ronin sheath for someone that wanted something less 'bulky'

That is a nice looking sheath. I hope that sheath will become on of your regular model line up.

I know a lot of people like the tek-lock on sheathes but personally I can't stand them, too damn bulky and impossible to wear with pants and no belt, i.e sweats or other training gear.

take care & stay safe

Nosamk - excellent solution. Nice cross draw from the horizontal belt position, one of my favorites!

One thing I found out about the included Spydie sheath - even though it's design is to help prevent it from flipping, should it flip - just once - the criss-cross of the neck cord comes closer to your adam's apple than a sheath without the added width. This little fact freaked me out.

Thanks for the compliments guys!! I've had quite a few inquires about this...
