I have a Military that is new in the box with a brochure from 1998 that has the Spyderco line in it. It is CPM440V steel partially serrated and all the ectchings are laser engraved on the blade. Model on box is C36GSE and on the bottom of the box it shows 1998. How rare is this knife and is it a first run? I am having trouble getting pics but have some on a Spyderco forum. Thanks for the help I am new to the forum.

Apparently the model was introduced in 1996. I bought mine when they first came out. If it has CPM 440V steel and a two hole clip, it is the first edition. Not really rare, not really gonna bring you big bread. But a very nice knife to use. The new Millies have a three hole clip and use CPM S30V steel.

Thanks mine looks just like that but the clip is stainless with three holes. It is new with paperwork just trying to decide if I should keep it? I got it with a collection of 4 other knives. C69GP Temperance leaf no markings, Vesuvius 913, D'Allara rescue, and a 93mm rescue. They were all made in 02 and 03 except the Military and Vesuvius.

My clip is stainless, I just have a piece of black heat shrink tubing applied over it.

I am not sure when the switchover to the three hole clip occurred. Could be 98 or so, the two hole clip was weak. Mine are non-factory screws due to the clip snagging on something and stripping out the threads. Tore the knife down, re-drilled and tapped for larger screws. Ground off the excess then re-assembled.

I think in the first year there were two models available. One CPM 440V non-serrated, the other ATS-34 fully serrated. I was never aware of a partially serrated option.

The latter clips appear like yours?

I do not see partial serrations appearing until 2001 on that list. Yet the OP states his is from 1998 and is partial serrated. I'd like to see a picture of the knife, because I bet it is fully serrated. The Military full serrated have a large portion of the blade non-serrated in front of the serrations possibly confusing someone into thinking it is PS. The model identifies it as fully serrated, i.e. C36GSE. 1998 was the year they introduced the three-hole clip.

If you click on the pic it will show a library of the other new Spyderco's i picked up, sorry for the small pictures trying to figure photo bucket out.

That is a full serrated Military, not a partial.

On photobucket, when you hover the mouse over the picture, you get a list. Use the Get Links, this will bring up a box of links. Use the lowermost link to post pictures. Click on it, it will turn yellow, and you are ready to paste it to your post.

Also, I believe the new ones are made on earth. :)
I wish they would make a compression lock Military with a reversible pocket clip.
That would be Military perfection.
